I was actually a fan of Metro, coming from Windows Phone. I bought in early to Windows 8, including buying a Windows 8 Laptop (Lenovo X220), and a Surface RT.

The problem wasn't Metro itself -- it was the ham-fisted, halfhearted integration with the rest of Windows that proved irksome. Windows 8 was the version that introduced Settings alongside Control Panel -- 15 years later, the merge is almost complete.
