That’s not true. They can reject requests for basically any reason and routinely do. They’ve actually patently ignored requests I’ve sent previously.

That is 100% false. There are scenarios where they can reject a FOI request, but they are specific:

And the scenarios are flexible and subjective enough that your request can be denied if it is politically expedient.

I have genuinely made a request that has been patently ignored. It was politically sensitive, but a denial would have been nice.
