Well, the Fremen certainly thought it was authentic. But when you have a whole line of Bene Gesserit Reverend Mothers guiding the evolution of your religion over generations then maybe “authentic” isn’t the right word to describe it.
Anyway, modern Muslims would regard the Fremen as apostate either for altering the religion or for allowing outsiders to alter it.
