Yeah. It's slow on Linux, for sure. I use Foot, which as far as I've tested is the fastest to launch. I use Niri and launch Foot terminals all the time as part of my workflow (it's just how my mind works), so time to launch matters to me.

Ghostty barely takes longer than foot to open a new terminal. We are talking in milliseconds here.

time foot = 0m0.130s

time ghostty = 0m0.242s

112ms difference, and I have GPU acceleration after that.

This is nowhere near "slow", like you stated.

Where did you measure that? On wayland, last I measured, the difference was 20ms vs a couple hundred. Absolutely noticeable and very annoying. You can get Ghostty down a LOT by making it a systemd service and make your keybind spawn new windowos, but even that doesn't get it faster than foot. It's not ghostty's fault: there's just a whole bunch of GTK stuff to start up. Monstar seems to fix all of it.

Yep, same here but with xfce4-terminal.

I've just reverted back to using that as it's faster to load and has all the features I need.
