I agree strongly with you but the ship has sailed, it's much too late to stop:/

I'd like to see the companies (and individuals inside them) held accountable for this though.

There is no useful point to "accountable" other than "make it stop happening". The ship has not sailed. We can and should stop it.

Of course there is. It's to make the responsible parties pay reparations as well.
