Yeah, and when I was in ROTC we "learned lessons" from Tom Hanks in Saving Private Ryan as well ("leaders complain up", etc). I still don't take much stock in fictional leadership. I'd much rather do case studies of real life leaders who were great than study fictional leaders. Watching Band of Brothers would have been better IMO because at least Lt. Winters was a real person (even if Damian Lewis didn't portray him with perfect accuracy)

It would be fair to pick out a situation and resolution in ST that did coincide with military doctrine.

In particular, I think (I don't know for a fact) that the military emphasizes that the commander not be best buddies with those under his command.

Makes you wonder how he feels about Hegseth.

I'm not sure many active duty people like Hegseth, I haven't met any yet at least and I am around military folks quite a bit in my life. They all seem to be riding it out until he's fired, impeached, or replaced with the next presidency.

In the meantime: they could well end up being the ones in trouble while Hegseth will be pardoned.

Late response, but yes. There could (I won't go so far as to say will) be blowback against people who followed his orders if they're later deemed unlawful, and unless Trump really wants a scapegoat, Hegseth will be just fine, even if out of a job.
