Yeah, it works globally (with varying geologic layer quality). Its heavily inspired by PeakFinder (incredible app), so yeah it names peaks and you can point the reticle at a peak in AR mode and it'll tell you what the peak is made of!
I enthused like a total nerd about PeakFinder (or PeakVisor) on my first date 10 years ago. She married me because my joy about mountain lore was palpable (maybe other reasons too).
