Some of us rode the home-theater-pc wave back in 2003 and are sick of the jankiness of having to have a keyboard in your living room for the daily “occasional” thing you can’t do with the remote.
Yeah I agree no need for a janky setup like that these days. If you want control of your media, but don't want the dated HTPC setup, get something like a Ugoos am6b+ run Plex/Kodi/Jellyfin/Emby on a PC anywhere on your network and that can play all of your media using a remote and nice interface.
Fun fact: you can install Kodi / Jellyfin clients on a rooted TV as just another app.
