of course each stock price is many bets intersecting at the same time (with all their correlations of course)
stocks are claims on future cash flows, currency is claim on future purchasing power, but all can be though of as forms of money, where the prices are based on background information [ie. priors, beliefs, experience] and people's prediction of the future supply and demand.
and the general abstract definition of said bet is asking where are you in the information flow. if you know with sufficient certainty how the people afer you will evaluate some news then you can guess which side to take to make some money.
