Nothing screams "above the monetary value of things, fame and fortune" as extremely ornamental architecture.

I mean common, La Sagrada Família has nothing to do with "focus and sense of greater purpose". If you want to show off, you will want something like that. If you do not care about showing off, you end up with more boring architecture.

I strongly disagree with your assertion about La Sagrada Familia. I think it displays both focus over the long term and a sense of greater purpose, to a high degree.

I say that despite finding the building itself quite ugly.

Interesting, I am exact opposite. I like architectural experiments. I would not want to live in one, because most are impractical. The architect cared about visuals more then about usability. But I like them when I encounter them.

But, my primary read is "flashy attention seeker" or "fun entertaining". Not seriousness, future and all those other things OP listed. They are not disciplined, they are playful, provoking etc
