Does this consider positive (or even ambivalent) comments too? Put another way, a product with wider use will have more complaints than something niche but worse.

+1 to this. Let's say, in an alternate universe, beloved Evernote had 1000x as many users as this dying crappy app still has in ours. It could easily top this rating because for hot/popular tools there will inevitably be unsatisfied users, too, even if the general sentiment is 99% positive.

I just checked the first comment about crowdstrike, and it’s not generally a negative review (https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=50315965). I think this app confuses a negative connotation of a post, with a mention of a product inside that post and assumes the negativity is towards the product.

Edit - I checked a few more and it’s a total crapshoot, some of the comments are just informative, not negative at all. I wouldn’t trust this list.

Popular services get more complaints.

Interesting idea. Maybe you can normalize the results by popularity. More people have Jira installed and therefore there will be more complaints.

Bold gambit picking Jira as your champion.

Citing the real source HN comments will be helpful.

Good call. Each row now links to every comment we counted as a complaint, so you can check them one by one.

The only surprising absence for me was Datadog - the category I expected (high touch sales team, egregious margins, IPO or private equity pressures) is else wise pretty well represented.

Surprised it's not higher too. It's at #51 with 13 complaints.

#1 company I am will celebrate once they are replaced in our stack.

"Hey, I talked to one of your engineers" tactics is scummy.

It'd be good to note which are actually networks (vs products).

LinkedIn, RealPage, etc (on the list) are more so networks than a product.

if github isn't at the top of this list whatever tooling you use to find sentiment is broken, fundamentally.

While HN has been negative on Github, October was its best month in terms of # of new orgs using it: https://bloomberry.com/data/github/

The rough math is based on % of negative vs. positive sentiment. There's likely a ton of noise around github that diluted the math. I can look into though, thanks for the feedback.

well that's clearly dumb as fuck. So if I mention some unknown saas once negatively it shoots to the top of the list?

Popular enough to receive critical reviews. Survivorship bias?

Amazing project! I can finally breath!

I think there is some bias in it: if software is so exceptionally eternally bad that complaining about it is like saying that water is wet, then that will lead to fewer complaints. Yes, I’m looking at you, JIRA.

New review submission is broken, give generic error. I never miss an opportunity to complain about the dumpster fire that is ClickUp but I was unable to submit my 1-star review.

Just pushed an update. Should work now. Lots of traffic on the page now, thanks for the heads up.

where have you gotten the idea to build this in the first place, lol

Lol. 6 months of hearing 100s people complain about their SaaS stack, trying and replacing and rebuilding part of their stack themselves, moving to AI native alternatives, so wanted to see if what I'm hearing lines up with the data.

> lol

wtf?
