Canva CEO's letter to staff: Major restructuring affecting 22% of employees

First ever decline in growth is explicitly mentioned in the letter as the reason.

I wouldn't be surprised if they were too big regardless - as an outsider looking in, I'm in Australia and up until a few months ago, LinkedIn jobs ads were full of seemingly always-open jobs ads to work at Canva (like 10 different roles open at a time, every time I looked across multiple months).

The rate at which code is produced is never the bottleneck in an organisation that size. Getting LGTMs on your design doc from 20 different stakeholders is, and agents aren’t going to help you there.

It believe it’s the ignorance of how growth, fund raising, investment, financial incentives and structure, and in general economy work that lead people to these assumptions sometimes.

It’s happening across the industry, from fashion to auto industry, all are in trouble and are laying off.
