Also the future where there is no sacrifice to achieve your lifegoals seems just unnatural to me.
I am building personal software for family (home automation where it is not possible, time capsule (future letters for kids), study materials for kids and much more.
Alternative is, it would take me hours of manual work and I'm stuck at computer.
Yes, I'm in AI heaven right now that allows me to spend way more time with family than I would have been able to and still be productive.
It is my life goal. But I have noticed that achieving this doesn't require:
> I can type two prompts to solve a task > I am building personal software for family
It seems to me that you're just using time spent with family as an excuse to prompt more.
> I can type two prompts to solve a task
This is referring to work stuff where I get "extra" time with family as AI chugs along. I know this is a luxury, but I'm lucky to have it.
> I am building personal software for family
This is solving real problems for the family, problems I would have had to solve _manually_ anyways, as writing software for this would have been too time prohibitive. However, manual solution for these problems are also annoying and time consuming.
Now, some problems are getting solved faster, in higher quality, and often, in a reusable way.
I sent a 100+ documents package to my lawyer last week, containing a huge amount of legal/personal documents. Some I never even heard about before; some are required because of obscure laws etc that are not apparent without reading the law sections multiple times. AI gathered all of them for me, the ones I didn't have: it told me how to get it or got it itself if possible. Organized the whole thing in a neat way. There is no way anyone can gather all these documents in such a short time (3 hours of on and off prompting + a few days of waiting for post), organize it perfectly. If I manually did it, it'd take me at least a few days of full time work.
When the lawyer took a look, all he could say is everything is in order for submission.
It's no different from someone seeing their car as just a tool to get from A to B. That might be an understandable mindset for people on HN, whereas people at a car meet might find something off about that mindset.
Not to mention, sacrifice can come in many forms. The simplest example is, the time required to learn something or develop a skill. As long as people want to pursue things just out of interest, that's not going away.
(Unless we find a way to download the information directly into our brains, I suppose.)
