What on earth is "charity shopping"?! I see it a lot on social media and dating apps.

If you are American, it’s a “thrift store/thrifting”.

In the uk virtually all thrift stores are run by a well known charity and thus the locals call them charity shops.

I'm European, so it's a second hand like Dutch Kringloop?

Second hand, usually donated goods, sold to fund a charity.

Are there no similar stores in the US?

They call them thrift stores. Goodwill is a huge chain that you can find everywhere.

Yes, Kringloop, Charity Shop, Sally Ann (Salvation Army) in the US, all similar things.

Aka "Op shop" for the Aussies & Kiwis.

Shops run by charities (similar to US 501.c.3 'nonprofits'), which are exempt from certain business taxes.
