Yes, I have. For a whole year, I asked about it at every mapping session. But no matter how many times my cochlear implant was remapped, there wasn't much improvement. I still don't know whether the cause lies in my auditory nerve (peripheral) or in how my brain processes sound (central), or something else entirely. I told my audiologist that speech sounds blurred, and I also brought it up with my doctor, but nothing really improved.
Do you know if your loss is due to damage to the inner ear or something deeper in the chain?
Unfortunately, I still don't know the answer. At least to my ears, music sounds clear and beautiful, so why is speech so muffled and hard to understand? My hearing loss remains a mystery. A thorough evaluation at a university hospital might reveal the cause, but nothing I can do on my own will uncover it. For now, I'm left with an unresolved limitation: I can't tell whether the problem lies in the peripheral auditory system, the central auditory system, or the cochlear implant itself.
