Tell HN: HN Is Wrong

Here is a quick Show HN story.

Inspired by Alex Karpathy's HackerTube, i spent time, effort and tokens on analyzing Show HN posts - 200K plus posts, and a million plus comments, identifying trends, patterns, reactions etc.

I spent some time on designing the app too, and it felt very good because it was a 'HN community only' thing.

Then I submitted it to HN, and got zero upvotes. https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=50396822. I was so sure there is some value here, that I submitted it again (from a different userid and from the same userid) but looks like the URL is banned now.

What do I do now? I have a tool that is built only for HN, it is a free tool and imo gives a set of insights based on Show HN posts, I don't have any audience anywhere so I cannot 'show' anywhere else.

The irony is this: I found the most value in the tool I built, in the 'HN is wrong' area. I find myself there now!

you can check out the tool at hackershow dot org. If you see this that is. And if someone chooses to resubmit this tool as a Show HN, please submit the 'HN is wrong' part of the tool, lets make it exciting!

I'm sorry. This is going to sound blunt, but when I went to your site, I thought it was a spam site.

- The P2P.ai link, - the visual hierarchy makes it totally unclear what's going on (why is the headline, which appears to be 100% AI-written, because they're always incomprehensible, the primary thing you see as the "h1"?) - the way it's auto-playing, - the lack of any kind of description anywhere about what's going on

I believe it is readable to exactly two minds: yours and the agent that made it.

I can't make heads or tails of it and if I were a mod I would've banned it, too.

Please don't misunderstand me, I'm not saying I don't like your site. I'm saying it looks like a hazard and isn't understandable to other people. If you want it to be useful to others, you'll need to figure out how to fix that.

Thank you for the feedback, will improve on the areas mentioned.

Only upvoted because it was Karparthy.

The video and books sites has been made before, and presented on HN as well.

That's what new technology does.

Reinventing what has been done before, but not adding any quality value.

It's the books and videos that's valuable. Not how you present them with new technology.

I found the hackertube submission interesting, and bookmarked it. The one after, about books, less so. Then it became "let's ride the wave".

your mistake was submitting the same url with different userid.

yes you are right. how do i get it fixed now? this is a tool made for HN and nobody else will see much value in it

I've noticed folks submit all kinds of meta-HN projects, more frequently in the last couple years.

To me, it's like the "I built a ToDo app in latest JS framework" trend (if anyone remembers that.)

Personally, I don't find them interesting so I almost never check them out.

What I do find interesting is the discussions and insights on HN.

Opening your site, I have no idea what it's trying to tell me.

Of course HN is wrong. Don't listen to anyone (including me) or copy whatever everyone else is doing.

What worked for someone else a week ago does not mean it will also work for you next week.

The "HackerAnything" hype were just flashes in a pan fads that will be forgotten in a long list of slop projects.

that last part is debatable - this is a network of techies, and the Show HN volume is not small either?

Water wet. Of course HN is wrong more than it’s right. What the echo chamber gives in hyper tech focus, it takes away the same. Your place is to continue to contribute value when you can, while extracting value in what is of interest to you, despite HN.

agree, and will continue!
