Everything that was good about mainframes does still exist, and is popular, we just call it "the cloud" now.
It is interesting to see that the applications themselves move very slowy, despite addition of colors/animations. Corporate apps are still mainly forms and databases systems. The technologies change, but they still have same architecture than in 60s/70s. Nothing new since mainframe, lisp and smalltalk.
