People make interesting hacks. Story at hacker news.

The only interesting aspect of this article to me is the continued rise of cottage industries like this. The internet facilitates connecting people of ability (hardware hackers) with their potential patrons.

Too bad these fans can't be creative and industrious themselves. I'd love to read about a sharing community (plans and schematics) built up solely on reproducing these sorts of artifacts.

The 405th[1] and therpf[2] are the forums you want. The 405th has more schematics like you mention but therpf has a wider scope.

There's a difference between making something and making something that goes beyond just gluing pasta shells onto a paper plate, this is one of those things. No need to be so negative, this is an interesting story for a number of reasons the main one being a cottage industry has been created out of helmets that electronic music makers Daft Punk wear which is just plain cool.

Aside: I love the irony of your name considering you're getting down-voted for your comment and your name is uptown. Might be time to consider changing it!
