Opera really went a step backwards a while back when they switched from Qt to GTK "For better compatibility with desktop environments", while DEs were themselves busy switching to Qt.

I hope they will correct that soon.

I actually have been looking into how hard it would be to get Firefox based on Qt useful again. Maybe someone would be interested in helping?

Interesting. I know only of KDE. Are there others? (Genuine question)

LXDE - the ultra light weight DE - is switching from GTK+ to Qt. I think Canonical is switching Unity from GTK+ to Qt as well.

Unity 8 uses QML for the shell itself but the applications will still be in GTK. And Lubuntu pushed back shipping LXQT until at least 15.04.

"Unity 8 uses QML for the shell itself but the applications will still be in GTK."

I think GTK will be just for legacy/3rd party applications and new stuff by Canonical will be Qt based.

According to develop.ubuntu.com, Ubuntu SDK allows two types of apps. Native (QML) and HTML5. I don't see GTK+ written anywhere.

At least they don't have to use C++

What do you think Chromium and Opera is written in?

s/At least they don't have to use C++/OK/

Struggling to find any point of that comment that was downvote-worthy.

With gcc and clang being written in C++, Symbian, BeOS, Genode, Mac OS X IO Kit, Windows 8+ DDK support and WinRT, among many other examples, better accept the computing world is slowly leaving C behind.

I didn't mention C.

As someone that always been on the C++ side on the C++ vs C flames, since the early days, it comes as consequence of statements like "At least they don't have to use C++".

Sorry if you didn't meant like that.
