3riverdev··on Ask HN: Freelancer? Seeking freelancer? (August 2013)
(shameless plug)

We recently launched a new version of http://www.myrudis.com. It's a new take on the freelance marketplace model with key, important differences. Freelancers, keep 100% of your income. Most importantly, SPAM issues are obliterated. You'll no longer drown in bids from individuals who didn't even read the project description. Employers, find freelancers who are really serious about the gig.

Hopefully that is acceptable for this thread. I realize it's some self-promotion, but really relevant.

3riverdev··on Show HN: A very different freelancing marketplace
We definitely intend to -- it's at the top of the list of new stuff to work on.
3riverdev··on Show HN: Find design/development volunteer opportunities
Although many designers and developers enjoy volunteering for organizations they're passionate about, it's sometimes hard to find opportunities. Word-of-mouth is the norm.

There's a few other sites in this arena: taprootfoundation.org and catchafire.org. They're great, but are mediated and structured. Although that's certainly useful for some situations, The Pro Bono is attempting to cater to the opposite side of the spectrum: concise, "one-off" projects that can be done remotely/virtually.

Any thoughts or feedback would be appreciated! I think the biggest hurdle will be getting this in front of non-profits...

I guess I don't see how it's off topic either -- just thought it might be interesting/helpful...

HN freelancers, check out MyRudius.com -- it's a new spin on a freelancer marketplace. The model is a lot different than others and has several key benefits. Most notably, you'll no longer be buried by "spammy bids" from developers who don't even read the project description. Also, keep 100% of your income.
3riverdev··on Show HN: A freelancer marketplace/gigboard with vital twists
Rudius is a marketplace for freelancing, outsourcing, and crowdsourcing. But, we do things very differently. Check it out to learn about how the new model benefits both freelancers and the employers!

I'd sincerely appreciate any feedback!

3riverdev··on Show HN: A new type of freelancer marketplace
Good point. I think that simply stating that somewhere on the "Post a New Project" page would help a bit. Beyond that, we have some ideas we're working through. Any suggestions?

Thanks again!

3riverdev··on Ask HN: What music instrument do you play?
I've played classical piano since I was 5 (so, 22 years now). I'm a senior software engineer and have always focused on math and development.

I always thought that classical music was extremely mathematical and, to me, made the most sense. However, I'm interested to hear how many of you are able to play jazz (or anything with improv). I studied under a jazz pianist in college and, although I had a decent grasp on the theories and chord structures, fell flat on my face during any form of improv.

I play a lot of guitar as well, but the above remains true -- more rhythm guitar and "messing around with chords" and no "lead guitar" improv.

A group of us developed an app for published research work that used the streaming API within academia. The amount of hoops we had to jump through for the necessary access was absurd. It's as if the attitude is "it's a privilege for you to use this API", as opposed to making it a viable platform.
