Typically not. Ferrying without paying customers is probably allowed.
420codebro··on Ephemerand – GPS-based random number generator
If you combined this with a local GPS receivers location + other data (system I/O load, temperature, etc), it then is random. But I agree without anything else it is... just a long-digit number that anyone can reproduce ?

The resulting cost savings they (SpaceX) are bringing to the launch market is really amazing. United Launch Alliance (ULA) made a fortune on over-charging the United States Government for their National Security launches. SpaceX is now competing for those launches with a price between 1/4 to 1/3 of what ULA is charging.

Re GPS - civilian GPS signals are not the same as military GPS. P(Y) and M-code GPS signals chirp at 10x the rate as the un-encrypted (civilian) signals.

In the time you get one navigational update for your car/iPhone GPS, a cruise missile's GPS has received 10 updates, presumably helping him guide himself up the ass of some terrorist at ~500MPH.

What would be the rough estimate for a fleet of cube/micro/nano-sats? Legitimately curious what the rough cost is.
420codebro··on Ubuntu Developers Seem to Be Pursuing ZFS Root Partition Support on the Desktop
The short answer is BTRFS, ZFS, and XFS pretty much have feature parity these days. However, I am partial to ZFS as it is by far the most mature and widely installed. I have never lost a bit of data due to data rot in any of my ZFS deployments.

Word of advice, stay away from parity bits. Mirrors are supreme. Stripe the mirrors (RAID10) for the level of performance needed.

I like to beat on them just like everyone else but what is the expectation? Everything they write if it runs at an OS level?
420codebro··on No Thank You, Mr. Pecker
Nope. We have no prior restraint here.
420codebro··on A Kingdom from Dust (2018)
Yeah, we will sell them water.... at a nice healthy profit.
420codebro··on Ask HN: Why can’t I block all incoming calls that aren’t in my contact list?
The STIR/SHAKEN framework once implemented will give you a very good indicator of the callers identity.
