CodeWriter23··on No More Blue Fridays
I think a reasonable protocol is to stop using any apps when your cyber protection crashes. Why have that suite at all otherwise?
CodeWriter23··on No More Blue Fridays
> It's a significant difference.

When various apps running the world are crashing, unable to execute because malware protection is failing, there is no difference.

CodeWriter23··on No More Blue Fridays
> At Ring 3 it would crash an app, not the entire OS.

That's still an outage for those key systems.

> an unprecedented example of the inherent dangers of kernel programming

I take issue with that. Kernel programming was not to blame; looking up addresses from a file and accessing those memory locations without any validation is. The same technique would yield the same result at any Ring.

CodeWriter23··on X.com refuses to open with Firefox strict tracking protection enabled
Works fine for me with "Enhanced Tracking Protection" set to "Strict" ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

IANAL but I had one who advised us our Trade Dress was defendable.

I’ll keep my eye on your progress. Thanks.

Does it support OAuth2 authentication/ token acquisition? I’d love to not have to put my access token / secret key into Postman. Happy to be a tester.

You continue to miss my point. Your point is a lazy, "the future will get here whenever it does" perspective. Mine is incentivizing discovery brings future innovations sooner.
CodeWriter23··on Judge dismisses DMCA copyright claim in GitHub Copilot suit
Moot in your opinion. The idea is to bring the future more expediently by providing temporary incentive to pioneers reaching into the future.

Requiring attention IMO takes something out of the realm of “obvious”. And the standard is “novel”.
CodeWriter23··on Speed limiters now mandatory in all new EU cars
Next step: frustrated by variances between acutal and reckoned speed limits, consumers demand the limit is returned by an authoritative government API. Of course, authentication will be required to prevent abuse

Next next step: speed API uses social credit score as an input and imposes lower limit for those disfavored by credit system

The Patent System is not intended to be a test of exclusive original thought.

The function of the Patent System is to incentivize search for solutions by temporarily securing exclusive right to market novel devices and processes for the discoverer.

CodeWriter23··on No more boot loader: Please use the kernel instead
So, move all of GRUB’s complexity into the kernel

(or tell users to abandon all their use cases that led to the aforementioned complexity)

CodeWriter23··on A Mini Monitor for a Pi
Fooling the GPU into working and copying the framebuffer, interesting approach. Really simplifies implementation.
CodeWriter23··on Hurricane Beryl Isn't a Freak Storm–It's the Nightmare Meteorologists Predicted
No. 500 year storms. 1000 year storms. etc. Though the sample time is short on these events we do possess recorded history of extreme weather events. From pre-industrial times. Which suggests the potential for off-planet causes for these phenomena. Which nearly all climate “scientists”completely disregard. Such a lack of curiosity disqualifies such an avenue of “science”.
CodeWriter23··on Hurricane Beryl Isn't a Freak Storm–It's the Nightmare Meteorologists Predicted
Are we discussing weather? That has planetary scale cycles.
CodeWriter23··on Hurricane Beryl Isn't a Freak Storm–It's the Nightmare Meteorologists Predicted
~170 years is hardly Planetary Scale.
CodeWriter23··on Venezuela is first Andean country to lose all of its glaciers
I’m open to listening to Climate Scientist that considers Astrophysics as a factor. The rest can keep their pseudoscience to themselves as far as I’m concerned.
CodeWriter23··on I Add 3-25 Seconds of Latency to Every Page I Visit (2020)
Please re-read my original post where I allegedly committed the crime (according to you) that I made a diagnosis. I used the word “likely”.
CodeWriter23··on I Add 3-25 Seconds of Latency to Every Page I Visit (2020)
“Likely” is not a diagnosis. And no meds either, just thinking good thoughts was all you needed?
CodeWriter23··on One Million Checkboxes
I think you just hit the 640K problem.

You likely had situational not clinical depression.

Exactly the kind of content I come to HN for.

I wish someone would resurrect the Das Blinkenlights Mac screensaver. I think it was frozen in the Power PC age.

CodeWriter23··on Uber Is Locking Out NYC Drivers Mid-Shift to Lower Minimum Pay
Let’s put it this way, second time I drive for Lyft, it was with a free car. They provided the rental for $180/week and waived the rent if I met a ride quota. Driving about 60hrs/week my check from them was about $650 per week. Fuel was about $250 per week. Before taxes, had to deal with that on my own. And I figured out how to surge-mine the bar closings on the weekends.

If someone during the current period of time can’t figure out they can do similar money for less time at McDonald’s, they do not possess the financial literacy required to “get that”.

CodeWriter23··on Uber Is Locking Out NYC Drivers Mid-Shift to Lower Minimum Pay
How do you explain a College Student with no disposable income signing up for a Credit Card?

I drove for Uber/Lyft for a while. I fully understood I was converting the equity in my car into meals and rent. Most people don't get that at all.
