DanOpcode··on The state of Schleswig-Holstein is consistently relying on open source

Are we gonna accept being forever locked in to Microsoft because of custom Excel workbook formulas? Forever paying Microsoft a license fee, because we don't want to covert said formulas or invest in open source software to make it reach parity with Excel.

DanOpcode··on The state of Schleswig-Holstein is consistently relying on open source

True, regardless of the cost, it feels like money spent on open source software is more ethical and a better way to spend tax money. Why pay $15 million to Microsoft that will only benefit their shareholders, when spending the same amount of money on open source software would benefit everybody (the citizens as well).

DanOpcode··on Jolla Phone Pre-Order

Why do you hate yourself for it?

DanOpcode··on Jolla Phone Pre-Order

Not even with the Android emulation layer?

DanOpcode··on Do not put your site behind Cloudflare if you don't need to

I self-host my blog on a server in my home. Instead of opening a port to my home network, I'm using Cloudflare Tunnel to expose the blog to the internet.

DanOpcode··on Google Removed 749M Anna's Archive URLs from Its Search Results

Based on what? Have you read that somewhere?

DanOpcode··on This Month in Ladybird – October 2025

Cool! I thought it was only planned for the future

DanOpcode··on This Month in Ladybird – October 2025

Very cool! Impressive how they are improving and developing month by month! I sounds like they aren't far away from having a useable browser, but I think remembering hearing Andreas Kling tell that it's still years away from "finished"?

DanOpcode··on You Don't Need Anubis

I agree, I think it gives a bad impression when I need to see the anime Anubis girl before the page loads. Codeberg.org oftens shows me the nag screen, and it has worsened my impression of their service.

DanOpcode··on From VS Code to Helix

Awesome to hear! Many organizations are restrictive with what's allowed to be installed on the computer, so this will be awesome. In one project I'm getting upgraded from Windows 10 to 11 any day now. Will be great to be able to use Colemak there as well.

DanOpcode··on Meta is axing 600 roles across its AI division

Meta probably reached AGI and now the AI is advanced enough to develop better models of itself. So now AI is even replacing the AI developers.

DanOpcode··on Tesla reports steep drop in profits despite US rush to buy electric vehicles

Just guessing, but wouldn't surprise me if most luxury brands are struggling at the moment. I don't think this is the right time to buy a brand new, luxury car for most people. Considering the inflation, unemployment and uncertainty.

DanOpcode··on Wikipedia says traffic is falling due to AI search summaries and social video

Torrented books

DanOpcode··on Amazon’s Ring to partner with Flock

I wonder how many existing Ring owners would have bought the camera had they known they would eventually give third parties access to the camera footage.

DanOpcode··on The App Store was always authoritarian

What about warranty?

DanOpcode··on Everything that's wrong with Google Search in one image

I have been using Kagi for about a month now. Haven't had any desire during that time to go back to Google. Solid search engine!

DanOpcode··on Pocket Casts, you altered the deal, so I will alter your app

I recently switched from Pocket Casts to AntennaPod. AntennaPod is also available in F-Droid, which Pocket Casts isn't. It feels less likely that AntennaPod will be enshittified, which is why I made the switch.

DanOpcode··on Proton Mail suspended journalist accounts at request of cybersecurity agency

I recently moved from Gmail to Migadu and started to use my own domain instead. Works great so far

DanOpcode··on The effects of algorithms on the public discourse

Yeah, same here for the same reason. I installed FreshRSS in a Docker container on my home-server, found some blogs, and now that's what I'm subscribed to and reading.

DanOpcode··on The web does not need gatekeepers: Cloudflare’s new “signed agents” pitch

Are you talking about Cloudflare? The default seems indeed to be to block AI crawlers when you set up a new site with them.

DanOpcode··on Framework Laptop 16

I watched that video yesterday. Too bad. I'm glad they have looked into it at least. But too bad that Lenovo is able to build laptops with a trackpoint but not them. I don't see myself using a touchpad again if I can avoid it, so I'm afraid I will keep using ThinkPads for the foreseeable future.

DanOpcode··on Petition to stop Google from restricting sideloading and FOSS apps

The users are gonna build replacements for Uber, car parking apps, bank apps, etc?

DanOpcode··on Petition to stop Google from restricting sideloading and FOSS apps

There has been a dozen attempts already.

DanOpcode··on Framework Laptop 16

My last 3 laptops have also been Thinkpads. In addition to the mouse buttons above the trackpad, I also enjoy Thinkpad's trackpoint. Too bad Framework doesn't offer any mouse buttons and trackpoint on their keyboards, otherwise I might have considered them.

DanOpcode··on Google will allow only apps from verified developers to be installed on Android

Next time you buy a phone, buy a supported model. Right?

DanOpcode··on Google will allow only apps from verified developers to be installed on Android

Yeah, I think I will do that strategy as well. I will probably put Graphene on my next phone, and if any apps don't work I will keep them on another phone.

DanOpcode··on Why is GitHub UI getting slower?

After all years of advancement in computing, and in the year 2025 it's not possible to show a 5000 lines diff anymore.

DanOpcode··on Linux Reaches 5% Desktop Market Share in USA

Linux Desktop is something else. When Adobe considers if it's worth to port Photoshop to run on the Linux Desktop they don't include the market share of Android devices in that calculation. It's two completely different markets: desktop Linux apps and Android apps.

DanOpcode··on Show HN: Ten years of running every day, visualized

Is it possible to toggle from miles to km?

DanOpcode··on Show HN: Ten years of running every day, visualized

When googling, it seems to be the opposite. That morning erection is a sign of a healthy testosterone level.
