GenerWork··on Zohran Mamdani wins the New York mayoral race
Please explain how city run grocery stores are middle of the road politics. Perhaps they’re middle of the road when your road is all the way to the left.
GenerWork··on Zohran Mamdani wins the New York mayoral race
>He has moderated on the police funding issue

So he already backtracked on a core election promise even before he got elected? Doesn’t bode well for his supporters expectations going forward.

GenerWork··on Zohran Mamdani wins the New York mayoral race
>his policies are relatively common sense and middle of the road.

Rent control isn't middle of the road, it's 100% socialist. Same thing with city run grocery stores. He also wants to defund the police while replacing them with community outreach people, as well as raising the minimum wage to $30 in 5 years which is absolutely wild. None of this is middle of the road in any way, shape, or form.

GenerWork··on The New Google Search Ad Layout Is Causing Accidental Clicks
It's a classic case of a dark pattern.
GenerWork··on I analyzed 180M jobs to see what jobs AI is replacing today
I agree with this. I'm a product designer, and apparently there's "only" been a decrease in job postings of 2.6%. That doesn't seem bad, however in late 2022 through all of 2023 people were getting canned left and right and the market was incredibly tough. Can't really have big decreases when you're near the bottom of the hole.
GenerWork··on Tiny electric motor can produce more than 1,000 horsepower
I believe that some EVs already have 1 motor per wheel such as the top of the line Rivians that are advertised as quad motor.
GenerWork··on Why Companies Are No Longer Hanging on to Employees
At least the article is honest in stating why this is happening. I feel like I've seen lots of articles where the gist is "Are they laying people off because of tariffs? Maybe because of AI? We may never know!", so it's refreshing to see an article plainly state that this is for profitability.
GenerWork··on Mapping the off-target effects of every FDA-approved drug in existence
This is absolutely false. There's thousands of gym bros who've done absolutely stupid cycles with absolutely no post cycle therapy who've recovered and are producing testosterone again.
GenerWork··on ChatGPT Atlas
>It's one thing to build a predictive model on your demographic, spending and location and income information in order to target and sell you advertisements, and quite another thing to build a model of your cognition itself by recording you

If Atlas is successful, there's no reason why Google won't try to mimic it. They already have Chrome and Gemini, all they'd have to do is put Gemini directly into Chrome, dedicate some TPUs to Gemini instances that are tied to Chrome, and boom, it's Atlas.

GenerWork··on The AI bubble is 17 times bigger than the dot-com bust
People here are still in denial that crypto will ever have a use case, meanwhile you have Larry Fink saying that he wants to tokenize the financial ecosystem.
GenerWork··on Semaglutide loses patent protection in '26 in India, Canada, Brazil and Turkey
Triz is a double agonist while Sema is a single agonist. Generally, more agonists = better, although some people will prefer one to another due to the side effects.

Reta is a triple agonist that is basically Triz + glucagon. Bodybuilders love it because it'll repress appetite but also burn fat. As for why they're cheaper, it's because the Chinese will manufacture them for cheaper than the pharma companies, not slap a tremendous markup on them, and then sell the raw powder to the steroid sites.

GenerWork··on Semaglutide loses patent protection in '26 in India, Canada, Brazil and Turkey
I'm not saying I've done this, but if you're handy with bitcoin, it's so much cheaper to go through the steroid sites. I saw a sale of 10 x 10mg for reta where the total price was $225 with shipping. That's $22.5 per vial which is absurdly cheaper than any of the "legit" methods of getting GLPs.

And hey, if you want a little test/anavar/tren to spice up your GLP, you can get that in the same order!

GenerWork··on US moves to cancel one of the largest solar farms
>replace corn fields with solar fields

This will never ever happen, farmers would simply switch to different crops. I'm 100% behind getting rid of the ethanol mandate, but that's because it's completely counterproductive to its stated goal of reducing pollution because it requires more energy to grow the corn, fertilize the corn, harvest the corn, and then process it into ethanol than simply pumping, transporting, and refining oil. Also, cars also get worse mileage on gasoline that has ethanol due to the lower energy content.

GenerWork··on China's New Rare Earth and Magnet Restrictions Threaten US Defense Supply Chains
I'd say it's more of an incredibly large vulnerability, but in this case it may be the same thing.

No matter if it's called a threat or a vulnerability, hopefully this'll spur more action towards moving away from China for raw earths and magnets.

GenerWork··on New nanotherapy clears amyloid-β, reversing symptoms of Alzheimer's in mice
>I expect the funding will mysteriously show up to properly investigate the "brain diabetes" theory of Alzheimers.

There was the SNIFF [0] study that delivered insulin via nasal spray, so there's already some funding and studies happening.

GenerWork··on I played 1k hands of online poker and built a web app with Cursor AI
Potentially. Like the other poster said, you can go through Github, but if worst comes to worst you could take screenshots of what Lovable makes and have Cursor modify the UI based on the screenshots. If you're using Sonnet 4.5 as a model it should be able to handle it pretty easily.
GenerWork··on A competitor crippled a $23.5M bootcamp by becoming a Reddit moderator
I believe the phrase that applies here is "put up or shut up". If you have hordes of documents to draw on as primary sources, then it should be pretty simple (but perhaps time consuming) to write a rebuttal.
GenerWork··on I played 1k hands of online poker and built a web app with Cursor AI
If you're looking for a tool that may be a bit better than Cursor for UX, you could potentially look into Lovable. If you know what you want and the proper design terminology, you can potentially make some slick looking UIs.
GenerWork··on It's just a virus, the E.R. told him – days later, he was dead
As a product designer, I can think of 2 reasons why the person that came up with this flow might've made it a popup:

1) That's the default design system pattern for alerts, so whoever was the designer just went with it.

2) There's other alert patterns (alert bar, toast, etc), but sepsis was deemed to be so dangerous to the patient that it deserved to have its own special friction inducing UI element to alert doctors to take action.

>I don't know what it is that draws product designers to keep reaching for that horrible UX pattern

There are legitimate cases for alert modals like this one, but this definitely is an example as to when it shouldn't be used.

GenerWork··on Americans increasingly see legal sports betting as a bad thing for society
This sounds like Nevada. I remember arriving in the Reno airport for the first time and being astounded that there were so many slot machines around. Even CVS had slot machines!
GenerWork··on Making Florida More Flood Resistant Is Forcing Hard Choices for Homeowners
I saw it and it has NO applicability to my comment. I'm talking about home insurance.
GenerWork··on Hollywood is fuming over a new 'AI actress'
A handful of Star Wars nerds could have written a better Episode 9 than the one that was released, no AI needed.
GenerWork··on Making Florida More Flood Resistant Is Forcing Hard Choices for Homeowners
They are rising, in some cases by a lot. In fact, an argument could be made that Florida is promoting a healthier insurance market than California is.
GenerWork··on Making Florida More Flood Resistant Is Forcing Hard Choices for Homeowners
As someone who lives in Pinellas County, Gulfport is kind of unique in the sense that it's at a very low elevation compared to the rest of Pinellas with the exception of Shore Acres. Any storm surge that hits here will have its effects magnified due to this lack of elevation. I live up near Dunedin, and the only homes affected by storm surge were the ones within 2 blocks of the Gulf. Homes across the street from those homes weren't affected at all.
GenerWork··on Instant Checkout and the Agentic Commerce Protocol
The fact that you're being downvoted over this is proof that people here work and live in a bubble. People value convenience and are willing to pay for it, and if OpenAI is able to advance convenience through these actions, they'll make billions.
GenerWork··on Claude Sonnet 4.5
I'm one of them, but I'm just a product designer who likes to jump between various AI tools to get experience with them. Once my month with OpenAI is up, I may jump back to CC as I liked some of the non-coding features more, specifically plan mode.
GenerWork··on Microsoft has urged its employees on H-1B and H-4 visas to return immediately
That's not how it works. The idea is that the sites will hold your spot for X minutes before they release the seat, so what they're doing is booking the flight, choosing seats (or not), getting to the payment page, and sitting there while the timer counts down. I believe that once it gets to 5 minutes or so there's an alert that asks if you're still there, and if you say yes, they'll either reset the timer or add some additional time on.
GenerWork··on Ships are sailing with fake insurance from the Norwegian Ro Marine
I thought this was made up nonsense, but for those who are thinking the same thing as me, a Toronto police officer really recommended doing exactly this [0].

GenerWork··on MAGA declares war on the property tax
We need to call these articles what they are: a proposal to abolish the concept of homestead protection in the states that have them. The author claims homestead is the reason that California can't properly fund its school system, but this assumes that more money spent on education will always equal better results. If that was true, then California would rank higher in K-12 education than somewhere like Florida, which it doesn't [0].
GenerWork··on There Goes the American Muscle Car
Who cares what the social media jabronis drive? If you want a manual V8 Mustang and can afford it, get it and have some fun.
