MathCodeLove··on Show HN: NanoNews – A simple aggregated news feed based on specific key words
Thanks for the advice, I agree with your assessment. I'll figure something out and will make onboarding a smoother and more palatable process than it is now. It seems like that's my biggest issue at the moment.

No it isn't just a simple list of the top search results. It should be filtered by results that are considered "News". It's like simply that there isn't much real "news" on Python Data Science that's been published in the past 24 hours, so it feels the gap with whatever can be found.

Nice! I think your feed is definitely more visually appealing than mine. I may have to draw some inspiration from you styling. Thanks for sharing.

Completely understandable, if you're concerned with sharing your personal information then feel free to use a fake/disposable email, as there is not validation for that (yet).

If nothing else I've learned that I definitely need to have a workable demo available before sharing this elsewhere. It'll be #1 on my TODO list. It's nearly bed-time for me now, but I'll get started on it as soon as tomorrow. Thank you for your feedback!

That would be a great idea, I should have done something like that before posting. I'll work on it for the future, but for now feel free to use a throwaway email as there is no email validation as of yet.

Sorry for the inconvenience.

Hey there HN! I'm the creator of Nano News. It's a fairly simple idea that I found didn't seem to exist. I'd love to hear some constructive feedback and I'm available to answer any questions or concerns you may have.

MathCodeLove··on I wrote a SaaS product because the internet made me believe it'd make me rich
Are facebook ads really viable forna SaaS product? How should a lone founder organize a better launch than the OP?
MathCodeLove··on Caffeine: A vitamin-like nutrient, or adaptogen
Interesting observation. I think it could be argued that the average nicotine user today us a dramatically different kind of person than they were then.

During the time frame that the user you replied to was referencing, nicotine consumption was the norm. Now, with the extensive change in societal perspective that nicotine consumption has undergone, those who still use gravitate towards the uneducated and less successful.

MathCodeLove··on If You Want to Be a Senior Developer, Stop Focusing on Syntax
There is significant value in being able to understand what one needs to google to begin. Then from there it is not as trivial as it may seem to determine the most appropriate answer, and then to adjust that answer to work within your code base.

You seem to be speaking of this behaviour in a way that implies negativity. Of course it is bad is a Sr. Dev truly can't write any original code, but there's nothing wrong with the vast majority of ones codebase being snippets of solutions from the internet. As a matter of fact this method likely saves the company that employs the developer a good deal of time and therefore, money,

MathCodeLove··on Things I wished more developers knew about databases
As a programmer who is admittedly attracted to Mongo, a large part of it is simply its ease of integration. I'd happily spend more time familiarizing myself with SQL if it were less of a pain to integrate into my projects.

The first time ever using Mongo I had a cloud cluster connected and working in about 10 minutes after signing up. Trying to integrate SQLite took me around 1.5 hours before it was functional. To this day I have yet to set up a real cloud SQL database because the one time I tried it with PostreSQL I just couldnt get it to work.

MathCodeLove··on How to Find a SaaS Idea
If you'd like to throw me a few of those easy "couple thousand a month" ideas then I'll happily take those while you catch bigger fish.

It's absolutely incredible to think that the age difference between you and the author of the comment you replied to is greater than the number of years I've been alive.
MathCodeLove··on What people in tech had to say about JavaScript when it debuted in 1995 (2017)
I suggest that, if possible, try to set up a cheap server on a DO droplet or somewhere with a built in amount of latency and use that in your presentation.

When I was learning callbacks I saw people use the "setInterval" example and while it did help to an extent, the real world implementation still left a good deal to be desired.

This behaviour is not only unhealthy, it's also unnecessary. What precisely do you hope to gain from this? Do you truly think that you're really depriving any observing agents of knowledge that they desperately hoped to gain? I could understand protocall like this for mental health reasons, or for the desire to be "free" from technology for a time, but you can't justify this behaviour purely with privacy concerns. They already have more than enough information on you from the remainder of the time that you spend with your device(s).
MathCodeLove··on Mythical man month: 10 lines per developer day
The distinction here is between code thats clear and concise or code that hacky and confusingly compact. Few people would recommend try and pack a 4-5 line function into a super complex and confusing one liner, but it is reasonable to put a 10k line class into a 20 line function. It's on us, as the developers, to make that tradeoff.

I think the spirit of the comment you replied to was closer to the "clear and concise" methodology rather than the "as short as is humanly possible" methodology.
