I was excited about using Flutter "when it got good" almost 2 years ago now. At this point I just go for React Native if I need an app for mobile and web, and React if I just need a web app.

I've been struggling with eye strain and have considered trying to approach development in a fashion similar to that takeb by blind devs. Any suggestions for guides or overviews for how I can get setup?

As someone else said, you'll likely have to take a pay cut if you want to find something you consider meaningful. It's difficult to find jobs that pay well at places that aren't profit oriented.

As an American, I refuse to do this. The purpose of written language is to share information. When using a quote, you'ra trying to share what was said/written. Ergo, adding arbitrary punctuation when it wasn't in the original quote defeats both the purpose of the quote and the writing.

Do you think that these projects don't further the DoD's core objectives? The vast majority of such projects do contribute to the departments ability to wage war and build a competent force.

I myself am vaccinated and don't have a strong opinion on the matter but what I do have a strong opinion of is those who interject themselves into discussions with useless, politically charged comments.

I never said I wanted full laissez faire capitalism. I just want the healthcare market to have the same ability to operate in our current "free market" as other private businesses do.

Usually when people say something regarding the "free market" they aren't calling for abolition of the government in it's entirety unless they explicitly mention such, but loosened legislative measures taken on a specific segment of the existing market.

I agree that men do face some unique social challenges, but none of those are present here.

Yes, why should you expect support from a spouse if you aren't doing anything for yourself? This goes for men and women. Of course both parties should be allowed moments of vulnerability, but I thought it was pretty cleat that my statements were in the context of a long-term struggle. If my wife gets fired and has a bad week, I'll be there to support her and would expect the same in return. If she has a bad month, we'll sit down and have a serious talk about what she needs to do going forward.

If the only support you're getting is "man up" then maybe you should find yourself a different social circle and/or partner.

"He for she, she for he" means just that. It explicitly does not mean "He for she even when she isn't there for she, she for he even when he isn't there for he".

If you expect people to "support" you whilst you make no personal effort then perhaps you should reevaluate your outlook on life as a whole. That isn't how things should work in a healthy relationship.

You say this like it's an inevitable part of life instead of picking just picking bad spouses or being bad at relationships.

When the husbands in these relationships lost their job did they try to get back out there? Did they help at home? Did they do anything about it? If my wife lost her job and showed no motivation to get another one then I'd probably divorce her too. Part of what I admire in my partner is her incredible work ethic.

Maybe instead of complaining about "gender roles" complain about people picking shitty spouses and not having hard conversations about these sort of situations before they actually happen.

Nothing screams ignorance like people who comment on threads like these equating Chinese censorship to Western censorship. Is their censorship in the western world? Absolutely. Are theere authoritarian psudo-dictatorial states in the Western world with a society that is held in informational bondage compared to the rest of the world? Not to my knowledge.

That's incredible. Many people say we need free or heavily subsidized healthcare. I disagree, we need to remove legislation from healthcare entirely and let the free market figure things out.

Being a US company specifically doesn't make it better, but being a Chinese company absolutely makes it worse.

I wouldn't be nearly as worried if Tiktok were owned by Italy or Germany or France. But China, with it'a ongoing genocide of Muslims and totalitarian oppression, yeah that is worse than Netflix selling your data to advertisers.

That's absolutely a fallacious comparison.

1. We don't have accurate data from China on the number imprisoned and killed by them, so no one can make absolutely comparisons like you did.

2. The Chinese do this to people living peacefully inside their borders. If the US started rounding up and killing ethnic minorities WW2 concentration camp style then you could make this comparison. The US was engaged in active conflict with a group that itself was detrimental to human (specifically, women's) rights and that engaged us first.

I see where you're coming from, but Youtube isn't nearly as opaque as Tiktok. You can actually search for videos on youtube, typically content is longer and has a higher production quality which reduces probability of doom-scrolling. As someone else mentioned, TikTok is intentionally designed to be addictive and gamified, much more so that youtube or facebook.

And, objectively speaking, the US government is far preferable to the CCP. The US has it's issues and has made mistakes in the past, the CCP is still putting Muslims in concentration camps and exercises regular authoritarian controll over it's citizens. Militarily, the US is allied with most EU powers (including France) and generally has good intentions for it's allies. China, on the other hand, finds itself on the outside of most alliances, and considering that even their own people are treated poorly, I can only imagine that their intentions for others are not positive.

American tech companies take your data and sell it to advertisers, I don't like it, but they do. The US government only accesses it if they have a reason to do so and subpoena the specific information needed. The Chinese government? I have no doubt that they're collecting data for much more nefarious purposes. Intelligence indicates that they've been improving their military forces massively in the last several decades. It wouldn't be hard for them to subtly start slipping in propaganda into the tiktok feeds of countries they intend to invade, and then they'll have local-national support.

I think it's easy to look at this and say objectively that it's worse. If Youtube or Facebook were owned by France or Germany I would hold the same belief that tiktok is worse. It's not fear of some mysterious "other", but fear of a proven enemy to freedom and human rights, China.

Ah yes, the extremely reputable self-reporting from Chinese citizens, who absolutely have no fear for their safety should they say the wrong thing. Of course the Chinese love the CCP, they all say so!

I feel like I'm going crazy. Hasn't TikTok been proven malicious in it's excessive user tracking and data theft? Why does everyone I know still use it? Outside of privacy concerns, doesn't the blackbox algorithm make anyone worry? We're building automated echochambers for an entire population. We're giving a Chinese company the ability to control the content consumption, and therefore beliefs and knowledge, of entire countries. The ever growing popularity of tiktok is, to me, extremely concerning.

It's probably just because I'm used to Android, but whenever I use my company issued iPhone it just feels slugish and unintuitive to me. My android makes me feel like I'm operating a handheld computer with specialized software, an iPhone makes me feel like I picked up some weird foreign device at a farmers market.

Having lived in the US and the UK (as well as several other countries within Europe) for several years, I can say that in my experience the "license/permission to do X" is generally far more prominent in the UK/most European countries than it is in the US.
