Learning and desperately trying not to forget much of it ...

RandomInteger4··on A new credit bubble gets ready to burst
Done. Apologies.
RandomInteger4··on A new credit bubble gets ready to burst
My point was that I'm seeing signals that we're repeating history. Why do these home flipping courses pop up? You think they just come out of thin air? No. It means that there are market conditions that would allow an entrepreneur to sell their information.

What do we know about the pre-crash market in association with these signals? We know that (1) these things sound like a get rich quick scheme and (2) that they legitimately were a get rich quick scheme, because they actually worked up until the crash where many people were left holding the bags (houses that could no longer be flipped given the post-crash market conditions).

Are there any ways to hide leverage?
RandomInteger4··on A new credit bubble gets ready to burst
Is this why I've been seeing signs advertising something like "learn how to flip houses like a PRO! Call 555-555-5555" popping up around my little suburban town? Also bank managers hitting up my elderly relatives for home equity loans again.

It feels very much like we're in 2002-2005-ish again.

RandomInteger4··on Childhood Adversity Linked to Earlier Puberty, Premature Brain Development
Premature brain development likely means that the pruning stage of brain development occurred too early and too rapidly.

That or the brain formed too many connections too rapidly before the pruning stage.

Either way, the very structure of the brain is borked.

Not a neuroscientist though so take my input with a grain of salt.

RandomInteger4··on Ask HN: Developers with ADHD/ADD, how do you cope?
Pro-Tip: when you get a medication, make sure you're prepared to be doing something productive after you take it, otherwise you may end up browsing social media with a sense of focus like never before.

Also, invest time in learning how to stay hydrated. I got terrible dry mouth when I took adderall.

Also also, set alarms during productivity time to get up and walk around otherwise you will forget. For me, this caused me to get swelling in my lower legs a bit, which I think was due to a combination of sitting and no longer tapping my feet.

RandomInteger4··on “The Big Bang Theory” Normalized Nerd Culture
Can you elaborate? Hasn't that always been a thing?
RandomInteger4··on Common Muscular Weaknesses
Running shoes are fine, but after you stop rotating at the hip, you've reached the bottom of the stretch for the hamstrings, and everything else is just stretching the lower back for no apparent reason; could lead to a bulging disk.
RandomInteger4··on Common Muscular Weaknesses
Oh wow, yeah I just checked it out

Das ist no bueno. At least he's using light weight, so it's less likely that he'll bulge a disk, but still bad.

RandomInteger4··on Google HTML/CSS style guide suggests omitting head and body tags
This reminds me of a job I recently did for a company that had duplicate Google Analytics tags. I removed one thinking I was helping only to be yelled at when their numbers were cut in half the following month.

After I explained that they were getting incorrect information I was told "I know this isn't exactly ethical ..." yada yada. I fired that client.

Why was this comment flagged?
RandomInteger4··on Generic Drugs May Not Be As Safe Or Effective As Thought
While there may be some truth here, I am highly suspicious because this story feels like corporate sponsored FUD 101.
RandomInteger4··on DeleteFB: Selenium script to delete all of your Facebook wall posts
Hmm ... I wonder if they have an edit limit where old edits get erased if you keep editing, sort of like that trick someone came up with years ago for pinging the credit bureau so many times so that eventually your credit looked better since old items were erased or not considered for your credit score ... or something.
RandomInteger4··on EPA Could Make Thousands of Pollution Deaths Vanish by Changing Its Math
Im not a fan of Trump, but this phenomenon of beurocrats using deceptive math in public policy data is not unique to him.
RandomInteger4··on What Ancient Romans Used Instead of Toilet Paper
Not sure, but ...

Pro-Tip: If you come to the US, please throw poopy toilet paper in the toilet and not the little trash can next to the toilet which is meant for women's hygiene products.

RandomInteger4··on The myth of the Indian vegetarian nation
> Being non-vegetarian in the US means eating meat every day, pretty much every meal.

Huh? No it doesn't.

RandomInteger4··on SAT to Add ‘Adversity Score’ That Rates Students’ Hardships
When I was immersed in the leftist outrage bubble, I used to think this video was ridiculous and insulting, but after breaking out of that bubble, this video has become startlingly accurate.
RandomInteger4··on RealTalk Speech Synthesis
Sounds good in terms of lack of pauses between words and his general voice, but you can tell something is off due to the cadence and at times it seems like words trail off into breathlessness.
RandomInteger4··on America's loneliness epidemic: A systemic risk to organizations
I like Pinker's views with regard to violence and such, but I think he has largely missed the mark on this point. Maybe I'm just trying to generalize my own situation so as not to feel alone (sort of ironic I guess).
RandomInteger4··on YouTube “Let's Play”s are preserving video game history

While there's nothing concrete concerning how much YouTube costs and brings in, it seems to be generally understood that YouTube is an investment that hasn't reached profitability yet and only exists in its current state due to the fact that Google is willing to lose money on it in the mean time.

RandomInteger4··on YouTube “Let's Play”s are preserving video game history
Maybe I'm mistaken, but my understanding is that YouTube has been operating at a loss for its entire existence.
RandomInteger4··on Monsanto 'compiled dossier' on political opponents
If you're playing chess against someone, it would be absurd to ignore the positions of their pieces when deciding your next moves, especially given that the positions of the pieces are open knowledge. Stop trying to make strategic decision making into an illegal or unethical thing. That's absurd.
RandomInteger4··on How to brick Samsung phones
TL;DR - Malicious apps are malicious.
RandomInteger4··on Fortnite is free, but kids are getting bullied into spending money
Hmm, that makes sense. Given that though I would say griefing is a sub-category of bullying then, or a tool used by the bullying party (inheritance vs. composition I guess).
RandomInteger4··on Fortnite is free, but kids are getting bullied into spending money
For Minecraft, it largely depends on the server and how it's moderated or lack thereof. Some servers have a higher degree of toxic behavior than others. It is called 'griefing' rather than 'bullying' though.
RandomInteger4··on Facebook: Breaking Up Facebook Is Not the Answer
What are they monopolizing in social media? People? Are we going break up Facebook by telling Jim and Dan that they have to use two separate social media sites and can no longer communicate via the same social media site?
RandomInteger4··on Boeing 737 slid off the runway and fell into St. Johns River in Florida
Sure sure, that's what you WANT us to think! How many super mutant criminals have just escaped due to this?
RandomInteger4··on Caffeine Cranks Up Solar Cells
According to wikipedia, caffeine can be synthesized, but is normally just obtained as a byproduct of decaffeination.

If anything would increase in price, it would be energy drinks and other caffeinated beverages. Price increase would probably be minuscule, as I imagine the demand for solar panels is dwarfed by the demand for soda and energy drinks,.

RandomInteger4··on Have a personal web site
You should be more positive about yourself. You're interesting. I believe in you.
RandomInteger4··on Minecraft’s creator excluded from event over his ‘comments and opinions’
Notch seems to have gone a bit off the deep end, and I'm not referring to his conservative views. His tweets often sound incoherent. Maybe English isn't his strongest skill? I can't tell.

Someone in the Minecraft YouTuber community speculated that perhaps he got involved with party drugs (MDMA) and it affected him permanently, as they had seen something similar happen with a friend of theirs. Pure speculation.
