ResearchCode··on My take on Elon's offer for Twitter
Disagree, the concept of witch trials predates the technological "leaps" you mentioned.
ResearchCode··on Ask HN: What creative field will be safe from AI?
Similarly, people making a living in "AI" will keep redefining AI to whatever is the capability or around the corner of current "SOTA" systems (which is never quite AI or autonomous driving). Hence the invention of terms such as _full_ autonomous driving and artificial _general_ intelligence.
ResearchCode··on Why the Job Search Sucks (2018)
That's viable advice for navigating a system built on nepotism and over-supply of STEM workers. Just saying. Doctors don't struggle finding a qualified job.
ResearchCode··on Reasons Truck Drivers Walk Out the Door [video]
But who's monitoring the monitors - bet margins are not thin enough not to offer cushy non-monitored positions for management.
ResearchCode··on Lambda School leaked documents show poor performance over the last two years
The 99% placement of medical schools is not a "troll", no. There is no reason it could not apply to CS.

Also note that most of the points made in contention would apply just as well to medical schools and medical school graduates. For instance, there are plenty of unsocialized medical school graduates - they are still called doctors. But if they studied STEM, they're supposedly "too bad to deserve a job". Weird.

I'm leaning more towards there being an oversupply of STEM graduates.

ResearchCode··on Lambda School leaked documents show poor performance over the last two years
While not having majored in medicine myself, I see no reason why CS couldn't have a 99% placement rate too.
ResearchCode··on Barcelona’s Bicibús: hundreds of families biking to school together
Enough not to get gaslighted.
ResearchCode··on Barcelona’s Bicibús: hundreds of families biking to school together
For instance, the "sources" accessible through those keywords put in a google search query.

(Entertaining the question as if my claim was more controversial than any other in this thread, that is, as if Barcelona was not infamous as a crime ridden s hole where visitors are asked to practice war zone vigilance.)

ResearchCode··on Barcelona’s Bicibús: hundreds of families biking to school together
Got the idea from them being one of the crime capitals of Europe where visitors are asked to practice war zone vigilance.

Could also be a little bit of the middle class being priced out of driving cars.

Futurism in the Davos sense perhaps. You will own nothing...

ResearchCode··on Barcelona’s Bicibús: hundreds of families biking to school together
It feels more dystopian than futuristic. There are countries where children don't have to commute in large groups to avoid crime.
ResearchCode··on Percentage of Hacker News job postings that mention a remote option 2017-2021
Companies made a concession to workers through Force majeure and workers realized office work is miserable and unproductive. Micro-managers try to herd the cattle back into offices but with mixed success.
ResearchCode··on YouTube deletes rapper's 'Let's Go Brandon' song claiming medical misinformation
And govt. totally didn't push for that exceptional "policy", it arose from the first principles of free market competition. Any apparent similarity to moderation on Weibo, TikTok or Bilibili is purely coincidental.
ResearchCode··on YouTube deletes rapper's 'Let's Go Brandon' song claiming medical misinformation
If you have a monopoly and your spy platform is essentially infrastructure then yes, of course it is.
ResearchCode··on Open-sourcing the MuJoCo physics simulator for robotics
The CS world has certainly been geared towards the hobbyist budget for some time now. Would be good to keep it that way, even if it meant sacrificing a supposed 1% extra accuracy in the latest "top conference" (sure if their sponsors are the companies publishing huge models it won't happen even if it should).
ResearchCode··on The wealthiest 10% of Americans own a record 89% of all U.S. stocks
Oh the poor is getting poorer in both ways when they for instance get priced out of the housing market. Wealth equality is a premise for long term prosperity of the majority.

And it's a feedback system, next time they choose the red or blue pimp, their ballot will be worth less due to increase in lobbying money held by the 10-1-0.1% - lobbying money used to purchase tax cuts for the same 10-1-0.1%.

ResearchCode··on The wealthiest 10% of Americans own a record 89% of all U.S. stocks
It doesn't if you tax capital gains properly. It's more important to speak of relative ownership as that reflects the change in power held by the 90% majority of Americans - it's vanishing before your eyes.
ResearchCode··on Is going to the office a broken way of working?
Or, would a clear majority choose remote work if presence at the office was completely optional and there was no career favoritism in the benefit of people choosing to come into the office.
ResearchCode··on The latest campus cancellation is different
Other countries have unions that will handle those cases for the laid-off employee. Doesn't work perfectly but it's another idea worth considering.
ResearchCode··on The latest campus cancellation is different
Yes, it is largely a labor law issue. Twitter mob is not just cause for terminating the employment of someone. Using anti-defamation laws against individual bullies is another possibility.
ResearchCode··on The latest campus cancellation is different
Yes, they are very comparable. One tries to kill you outright, one tries to kill you by starvation or drive you to suicide.
ResearchCode··on China proposes prohibiting private investment in news service sector
The US Gov is effectively Google Facebook and they will shut you down or shadowban you under some pretense. As well as the politically protected duopoly Visa, Mastercard refusing payment processing. If Cloudflare even allows your site to stay up. You survive that, you also have to dodge secret police assassins and top politicians calling for your murder as with Assange and Wikileaks.

But yes aside from that you are totally free to start your own media.

ResearchCode··on Norway to hit 100% electric vehicle sales by early next year
Neither do all but a few countries.
ResearchCode··on The Nobel Prize in Physics 2021
That's not true. On the "believing" side, Al Gore certainly politicized it.
ResearchCode··on The reputation economy is turning us into conformists (2017) [video]
Real countries don't have at-will employment and should start using anti-defamation laws against internet mobs.
ResearchCode··on Session Encrypted Messenger
And big surveillance tech has allied with Team Blue to get away with surveillance capitalism and anti-competitive behavior, so anyone on Team Red must be unpersoned. One way to do this is by whipping the programmer minions of woke corporations into a stress session frenzy.
ResearchCode··on Demonopolizing the Internet with Interoperability
Such as legacy effects.
ResearchCode··on Demonopolizing the Internet with Interoperability
Reductionist to the point of nonsense of course. It could be any of many factors.
ResearchCode··on Italy wants an exception to Europe's gas-engine ban for Ferrari, Lamborghini
Yes, and it would be a great way to convince the populace to take climate change seriously if the rich also needs to follow the rules.
ResearchCode··on Italy wants an exception to Europe's gas-engine ban for Ferrari, Lamborghini
Romania is a tiny minority country, guess they could be exempt too then from all this whole climate change deal.
ResearchCode··on A.I. can now write its own computer code – that’s good news for humans
Mind that those taxis were all supposed to drive themselves since 2018.
