Senior Web Developer or "Full stack developer" by today standards, better-know as the "unpopular opinion" on several threads.

The current state of web development makes me sad, mostly because it's all fault of all the die-hard javascript developers, you know what f*ck all javascript/ecmascript/typescript/node developers.

SadWebDeveloper··on Exploiting the TOR-Browser
Just disable JS by default and it will be good for 99.99% of the cases you don't allow explicitly allow it.
SadWebDeveloper··on Exploiting the TOR-Browser
A little condescending and obnoxious for my taste but mostly everything here is well-known and while the TOR-Browser devs could implement everything this guy wants it, and it will end in a moral dilemma of what could be considerable "malicious". IMHO the Tor Browser is not suitable for the truly paranoid but usually this wont matter because the truly paranoid is not using the TOR network as-is (with the integrated browser) and those who aren't truly paranoid can live with those risk.
SadWebDeveloper··on Just Say No
meh... low risk = low reward, high risk = higher reward.

Morality/Ethics is POV problem.

SadWebDeveloper··on Why Facebook Keeps Beating Every Rival: It’s the Network
I always cringe when a developer uses "scale" as intimidation tactic for why "my code is better than your code" and if you believe that only a handful of "facebook engineers" are the gods of scalability then you should probably switch careers.
SadWebDeveloper··on You think you can't be phished?
Verified by: Let's Encrypt

Somehow i was expecting that comodo was the one culprit for the valid cert but i forgot how easy is to ask for certs like this. Sometimes i think that lets encrypt is hurting more than doing good.

SadWebDeveloper··on Why Facebook Keeps Beating Every Rival: It’s the Network
what the f... does "culture" have to do with FB vs Snapchat. I get it, they copied the functionality fast but only because it was a twist of what FB already does not because FB-engies were the best in town but because it was too easy.
SadWebDeveloper··on A new upstream project to break up Docker into independent components
So Docker is now called Moby or Moby is the OSS version of what i believe it will be the "enterprise" version of Docker. Like RedHat is to Fedora, Docker is to Moby right?
SadWebDeveloper··on CodeStar – Quickly Develop, Build, and Deploy Applications on AWS
Amazon is the leading hosting provider that continuously tries to hide the infrastructure cost to his clients aka developers so they paid more. Be careful of this "things" pricing should be taken seriously when considering AWS.
SadWebDeveloper··on Ask HN: Taking a junior SWE job at around 7 years?
A fresh start will be great for landing easy (underpaid) jobs, i had a friend that used that strategy and when the team realized that he wasn't a JR they quickly promote him to bigger projects and way better pay.
SadWebDeveloper··on Ask HN: Taking a junior SWE job at around 7 years?
It matters if it is related to the job, usually it doesn't matter, to at least the python shop i was getting interviewed didn't seem to care my 5 years worth of projects in PHP and C#.
SadWebDeveloper··on Intel Discontinues the Intel Developer Forum; IDF17 Cancelled
Interesting move after "AMD Rizen" was launched, wonder how this is going to be viewed on the stock market.
SadWebDeveloper··on Drupal Confessions – An Open Letter
Offtopic... Someone here actually develops software in Drupal? Most people i knew abandoned drupal years ago for Joomla or something in python like Django, its kinda weird/cringeworthy hearing news about Drupal the Community more than the Drupal project.
SadWebDeveloper··on Why Isn’t OpenBSD in Google Summer of Code 2017?
The value of "mentorship" or "internship" at FOSS projects are overrated, most of this projects run without clear goals and improvements are made only by "interested parties" like intel wanting their technologies to run better on Linux or the devs at GitHub optimizing "Git" for the sake of their business operations but yet not a single improvement on the UI side (obviously because it will hurt their business if suddenly people realize how easy could be using Git without GitHub).
SadWebDeveloper··on Why Isn’t OpenBSD in Google Summer of Code 2017?
IMHO GSoC should be something like "hacktoberfest" where contributors for the projects get paid for squashing bugs not for making "new features" nobody needs.
SadWebDeveloper··on Open Source License Business Perception Report
You are thinking as if there were a "litigation in process", licenses are looked only if one the parties decided to sue, usually the "creator" or "author" of the work are the ones which are "suing" because he wants to gain royalties for the "work" he is done but in the context of WTFPL, given that "i license my work under this license" this non-existant because m licensing "my work" as something near "public domain" (if you accept the premise that even such us-specific legal term applies, which usually isn't) so pretty much all your question don't matter, there won't be a legal precedence if there isn't something to "sue" maybe for liabilities but this is something rare to see outside us.
SadWebDeveloper··on Open Source License Business Perception Report
I really dont see whats the confusion on WTFPL, the license states you "CAN DO WHAT THE FUCK YOU WANT TO PUBLIC LICENSE", this is code/work i don't want to be entitled nor endorsed nor looking for "royalties". Most corporate people will probably relicense under their own terms the code/work and I (as a developer/creator) couldn't care about it... so whats the "pain" and "confusion" on this lawyer?
SadWebDeveloper··on Modern JavaScript for Ancient Web Developers
> I'm an ancient web developer who would build entire web apps in django

No, you aren't an a "ancient web developer", ancient web development goes way back before "CSS" even existed when "standardization" was hot topic and Opera was the best of the best. JS-fans keep trying hard to dismiss everything "we won" before in favor of their own "js-based" flavors (sass/less/react/etc) favorite motto "one languague to rule them all, one language to bring them all" (... and in the darkness bind them).

FTFY: Zero Problems, Not-Tested Solutions

SadWebDeveloper··on Revisiting 64-bit-ness in Visual Studio and elsewhere (2015)
tl;dr... its humongous task and we are busy adding more "instant azure buying-options aka deployment tools", it will only benefit 1% of our users and we also want to keep milking this cow until the shit hit the fan.
SadWebDeveloper··on Uber drivers in Norway must pay back all earnings and lose their license
Almost any service we as developer built "are intentionally and knowingly breaking criminal law", either you are breaking local, state or federal laws or not complying with some standards that could face "criminal charges" therefore you are asking and giving the government the power to pretty much do anything they want. M sure in most of the countries, applying this will end in people rioting and vandalism.
SadWebDeveloper··on CIA malware and hacking tools
meh CIA tools still require "intervention" or well "manually infecting things", on the other hand NSA tools don't... so the day, all the NSA tools gets available then it will be doomsday for all sysadmins in the world.
SadWebDeveloper··on Uber drivers in Norway must pay back all earnings and lose their license
It baffles me the amount of support in this threads for this totalitarian bullshit... i know we suppose to hate Uber but ultimately charging with criminal charges to the "users" aka "drivers" is huge mistake, it will be the equivalent of the US government asking you to paid all your earnings because ebay wasn't playing by the rules.

PS: On a side note, i will add Norway to the list of countries you shouldn't do business.

SadWebDeveloper··on Sexism at Uber from Female Management
So she is working at infosec for uber and wears defcon tank tops.... skiddie spotted.
SadWebDeveloper··on Docker Enterprise Edition
Docker CE, Docker EE... was docker purchased by Oracle?

The only sad part of this annoucement is the part were they talk about "certifications" this will open the world to the next stage "docker developer certifications" and will soon start seeing HR departments asking for it.

SadWebDeveloper··on Cloudflare Reverse Proxies Are Dumping Uninitialized Memory
Oh boy what a great week... first we have SHA-1 getting a fast-track to the obsolete hashes and now cloudflare is f*cking everyone because they tried to obfuscate emails from websites and fail to "test every edge" case... whats next is the question.
SadWebDeveloper··on Reports of SHA-1's demise are considerably exaggerated
Didn't know about this spec/format (i know they called a protocol, m not so sure it can be accurately called that way) seems cool until you have to realize that you must support all hashes or at least a handful of that in your app which is convenient from the developer POV but wasteful from the database-administrator because you must either future-proof that column size or drop performance altogether and start using "document-db" for authentication which is kinda odd.

IMHO you should not "future-proof" password hashes, collision attacks for passwords are more difficult to achieve than many people realize. What you should as a developer do, is stop using the hash and only migrate systems that actually required in a case by case basis.

SadWebDeveloper··on Announcing the first SHA-1 collision
It's still quite impractical, m sure with some quantum computer or a custom ASIC built by those "super nerds" at the NSA its possible but but for you general adversary aka "hackers" (skiddies IMHO) it will be infeasible.

What this means is for all of you [developers], is to start new projects without SHA1 and plan on migrating old ones (if it's totally necessary, normally don't unless you use SHA1 for passwords).

A Great resource for those who still don't know how or what hash to use, is paragonie: https://paragonie.com/blog/2016/02/how-safely-store-password...

SadWebDeveloper··on Zuckerberg removed a line about monitoring private messages from his manifesto
I hate facebook not because of this bullshit but because using facebook is so utterly "normal" on the society that some websites are facebook-exclusives (facebook login only), people only seems to like the idea of using the fucking facebook chat for everything and now even customs ask you to unlock your phone so they can analyze your friends... hoping one day, some terrorist attacks facebook servers so we can get rid of everything online and start to forget about it.
