Splendor··on 3D Xpoint memory: Faster-than-flash storage unveiled
So this is essentially persistent DRAM?
Splendor··on NASA’s New Horizons Discovers Frozen Plains in the Heart of Pluto’s ‘Heart’
Not all of the ice is water ice. Some is methane ice, carbon monoxide ice, etc. That being said, I've definitely heard members of the New Horizons team speculating about water ice being responsible for some of the mountains they've seen and even the idea of Pluto having an internal ocean at some point.
Splendor··on I taught myself Python on the Internet and so can you
I would add Google's Python Class to the author's list.

Splendor··on How Big is Space?
And it has a cool light speed mode in the bottom right which really drives home the fact that even traveling at light speed isn't enough to get humans very far.
Splendor··on How Big is Space?
I prefer the interactive solar system on Josh Worth's site.

Splendor··on New Horizons: Nasa spacecraft speeds past Pluto
With a 248-year orbit around the sun those must be some long winters.
Splendor··on Implausible and overfunded CPAP machine on Indiegogo
Exactly, I think the success of this crowdfunding campaign speaks more to the opportunity present in improving the durable medical equipment marketplace than it does to the promise of this particular device.
Splendor··on Elio Motors is crowdfunding its entire $25M investment round
As of right now 5,365 people have registered their (non-binding) interest in $21,462,675 worth of shares -- making the average reservation ~$4k.
Splendor··on Amazon API Gateway – Build and Run Scalable Application Backends
API Tellum?
Splendor··on Show HN: Bamboo – an app to save, share, and discover web highlights
I dig the idea. Nice work.

I would suggest settling on a single font for the top section of the landing page. Having different fonts for the logo and the text directly below looks a little strange to my eye (latest FF on Win7).

Splendor··on SpaceX – Launch Vehicle Failure
One additional variable would be the cost to replace any assets lost on the 1 unsuccessful launch, although I'm not sure who ultimately picks up the tab for that.
Splendor··on Building Analytics at 500px
Instead of just letting people 'like' or 'favorite' users' photos, 500px assigns a score to each photo, from 0-100. They have an algorithm that factors in all the activity on a user's photo to assign that score. As the score increases the photo moves to different sections of the site (Fresh, Upcoming, Popular).

My relative posts a photo almost everyday and is always trying to figure out how to get a higher score; different photo subjects, posting at different times of the day, etc.

Splendor··on Building Analytics at 500px
They're an interesting company IMO. They've done a good job of 'gamifying' photo sharing. I have at least one relative that's addicted to it and pays for an annual subscription.

I'm not sure how well they're doing business-wise. I did notice that they recently pivoted one aspect of their business. They used to facilitate users selling prints of their works; now they've dropped that service and are building a stock photo service instead.

Splendor··on Gestimer – For little reminders during the day
Or let the user click the play button instead of autoplaying?
Splendor··on Gestimer – For little reminders during the day
I'm not crazy about autoplaying video.
Splendor··on Diet that mimics fasting appears to slow aging
What's your favorite sugar-free water enhancer?
Splendor··on Diet that mimics fasting appears to slow aging
That's interesting. Thanks for sharing.
Splendor··on Show HN: CrowdSound – Collaborative Playlists with Voting
Very cool idea.

I'm fascinated by the digital-era implactions of activities like this -- listening to songs with your friends. What used to be a simple private act now possible involves questions like "does the Spotify account owner's license allow sharing in this context?" or "does sharing the music in this setting constitute a public performance?".

Splendor··on Moving Wikipedia from Computer to Many, Many Bookshelves
tl;dr: "He will not, however, be printing all 7,600 volumes."
Splendor··on A Look inside Google’s Data Center Networks
I'm excited to see this type of information from Google but this post seems more like an announcemant that they released information and less like actual information.
Splendor··on Who Has Your Back? Government Data Requests 2015
I'm interested in why the EFF chose these companies to rate. For example, rating AT&T and Verizon but not Sprint and T-Mobile seems odd to me. Rating Snapchat but not Instagram almost makes sense becuase they're rating Facebook, but then they've rated WhatsApp separately.
Splendor··on Kindle Paperwhite
This looks nice but until Kindle supports EPUB it's a no-go for me.
Splendor··on Why cars went from boxy in the 80s to curvy in the 90s
While reading about how European car makers like Porsche were toying with curved shapes in the 60s, all I could think about was Corvettes in the 50s.
Splendor··on Show HN: Income Tax Calculator

It would be helpful to explain initialisms like TDS for those who don't know.

Splendor··on Google Ideas
I'd be curious to know how Google's decides which ideas are worth defending.
Splendor··on Chalkboard drawings frozen in time for 100 years discovered in Oklahoma school
> Just one idea: you don't come across things in multiples of 7 that often.

American football scores.

Splendor··on US hit by 'massive data breach'
That's interesting. I'm unfamiliar with Operation Aurora. Can you recommend a good source for more information?
Splendor··on Tell HN: Things I Learned about Credit Bureaus This Week
In case it matters, a credit freeze will also prevent services like Credit Karma from being able to access your information.
