VectorLock··on Twitter has re-suspended ElonJet account
Good job Elon you just Warrant Canary'd ElonJet for them.
VectorLock··on Six charged in mass takedown of DDoS-for-hire sites
Since card generators haven't worked since like the 90s I'd guess probably not.

The FBI has no problem spending tax payer money on criminal activities: drug buys, etc. They'll (hopefully) recover it from seized funds, otherwise its just part of their budget.

VectorLock··on The United States of America vs. Samuel Bankman-Fried Indictment [pdf]
I'm curious what kind of plea deal Caroline Elison got.
VectorLock··on Show HN: Whole Git repo was made with ChatGPT
ChatGPT is just regurgitating what they've fed it. Admittedly it does a really nice job of regurgitating and formatting that regurgitation really well but at the end of the day its just a really nice Google/StackOverflow in the CS world. It doesn't understand concepts, which students will need to understand how to extend our body of knowledge rather than just copy/paste it.
VectorLock··on Show HN: Whole Git repo was made with ChatGPT
Using it as a boilerplate generator I've found is pretty handy. That's something I've always wanted in my workflow.
VectorLock··on Show HN: Whole Git repo was made with ChatGPT
They're not even easier to fake. You could spread out these commits over time with each commit just being the next iteration from chatGPT. I'd bet sooner rather than later someone will offer this as a service.

Most first line screens/recruiters aren't going to do much more than skim code and aren't going to run it. Best case scenario now your recruiting pipeline is inflated with more poor candidates. Worst case scenario they're not one step closer to bamboozling their way to a job they're not qualified for.

VectorLock··on Show HN: Whole Git repo was made with ChatGPT
Guess we can throw out "look at a job candidate's github repo" as a screening tool.
VectorLock··on 2 Years at Twitter
It boggles my mind how much people think "active users" is like some kind of fungible unit for engineering work required.
VectorLock··on 2 Years at Twitter
Each bullet point can be a massive undertaking, especially at scale. "Being able to post/view media (image/video/polls)" think about how much media that is. How much infrastructure you need to support that. How much it takes to make tools to manage that infrastructure.
VectorLock··on Woodworking through the mind of an engineer
Like those very popular "we built an elaborate swimming pool in the middle of the jungle" videos that were debunked.
VectorLock··on Twitter to employees: all office buildings closed, badge access suspended
They have all the H1Bs who can't leave. So essentially Twitter just became Infosys.
VectorLock··on Tesla has used space characters in internal emails to identify leaks
More important is spreading the perception he was able to sleuth down who the leaker was, to deter future leakers.
VectorLock··on The fall of Sam Bankman-Fried is crypto’s Enron moment
Really in this case CZ put a bullet in him as sure as he was holding a real gun. The need to build "trust" by not absolutely ruining one of his competitors didn't factor in here, because there is no need.
VectorLock··on FTX faces potential hack, sees mysterious outflows totaling more than $600M
I don't think we'll ever see the end of cryptocurrency. Too good of a grift.

I wonder if we will reach a point where "crypto" will revert to not meaning "cryptocurrency" though.

VectorLock··on Zuckerberg's leaked email on VR strategy (2015)
Okay Mark. I'm sure body language and facial expression from an avatar is better than video of the actual person...
VectorLock··on Zuckerberg's leaked email on VR strategy (2015)
Those aren't prescription glasses are they?
VectorLock··on Zuckerberg's leaked email on VR strategy (2015)
I don't think the vestibular system is a solvable problem with VR but it is much less / a non-issue with AR. Thats why he always talks about VR/AR.
VectorLock··on Zuckerberg's leaked email on VR strategy (2015)
They're not designed to break, they're simply picking the trade-off point that tends towards the "lightweight enough to wear all day" end of the continuum.
VectorLock··on Zuckerberg's leaked email on VR strategy (2015)
What visual cues or tells would you LOSE with a video call, but maintain with an abstract avatar?
VectorLock··on Zuckerberg's leaked email on VR strategy (2015)
I think thats what Mark is saying in this. VR/AR could eventually replace: Desktops, laptops, TV, AND cell phones. Thats a lot of stuff. Literally owning eyeballs.
VectorLock··on Zuckerberg's leaked email on VR strategy (2015)
A lot of people said exactly this when cell phones were Zach Morris sized, but 3 decades later here we are.

We can probably expect VR/AR to take about that long if not longer. So Mark might not be wrong, he just might be way early.

VectorLock··on Barilla passive cooker
Or just cook your pasta in the sauce.
VectorLock··on Engineered ‘Superplant’ Cleans Indoor Air Like 30 Regular Plants
Stick a box of Arm & Hammer in your central air ducts.
VectorLock··on Ask HN: What's the best technology for a CRUD website to minimize maintenance
I feel like this is less of an issue for Django but I don't have any data to support that opinion.
VectorLock··on Ask HN: What's the best technology for a CRUD website to minimize maintenance
Other than security updates why can't you just freeze your dependencies as they are now? Or am I understanding you want to continuously work on it but don't want to have to fix forward version incompatibilities?
VectorLock··on White House deletes tweet after Twitter adds 'context' note
Is the Elonsphere more or less representative of the general population than the Redditsphere or the HackerNewssphere?
VectorLock··on Twitter’s mass layoffs have begun
There are, some say, things worse than death.
VectorLock··on Twitter’s mass layoffs have begun
We know what they do with journalists that tick them off, I shudder to think what they'd do to someone who doesn't repay their debts...
VectorLock··on Twitter’s mass layoffs have begun
>Significantly less misinformation

Considering day 1 the new head of Twitter posted false information about the Pelosi attack from a site known to publish fake news, I'm going to guess this probably won't be the case.

VectorLock··on Mastodon gained 70k users after Musk’s Twitter takeover
This isn't "shares some features", this is directly copies the look and functionality of Twitter. It may have some differences, but so much is the same you can't argue that isn't what they were going for.
