VectorLock··on Connectix QuickCam: The First Webcam
This practice seems to continue on to this day.

When your product becomes the actual graphical icon for some particular class of things, I guess you are totally justified in calling it "iconic."
VectorLock··on Amazon CEO says company will slow hiring rate, no hard return to office planned
>A promise from your employer means very little.

This is true, and I think actions speak louder than words in this case. If you see your company not renewing lease, or growing without expanding office space, I think you can take that as a good indicator they won't change tack so hastily.

Can you share a little bit about how Amazon handles on-call? Do they make their dev teams be on-call for their product areas, do they have first line responders/SRE, and things like that?
VectorLock··on Interview: Vitalik Buterin
Most mafia bosses don't have to kill people; they get people to do it for them. They facilitate the killing. One might suggest they _develop the ecosystem_ that rewards murderers.
VectorLock··on 134.5 kg Concrete Bike [video]
Wouldn't this be a "cement bike?"

I don't see any aggregate.

VectorLock··on The fight against drought in California has a new tool: The restrictor
The restrictor sounds like a great idea but it seems like very quickly the worst offenders will install tanks to buffer the water they need to keep their lawns green. Maybe 1 gal/minute across all their greenery might not be enough though but at least they can shower and do dishes at the same time then.
VectorLock··on Home Heating Cost Comparison
Wouldn't have expected Wood to be the most cost effective option.
VectorLock··on I love my GPD Micro PC
OQO was proto Kickstarter disappointment.
VectorLock··on I love my GPD Micro PC
Yeah when I saw they're $600+ my first thought was "There has got to be cheaper models of this." You can still get Chromebooks for less than this.
VectorLock··on Marc Andreessen slams new multi-family affordable housing
>Build it somewhere else

Okay... _where_?

Thats the whole point of why NIMBY is reviled. Not In My Back Yard.

Once you're in the tres commas club, the money disease is fatal.
VectorLock··on Milwaukee Tool Raises the Bar with New USA Factory
My SO is a professor at a university with a lot of foreign students and she mostly only has to deal with cheating with this cohort of students.
VectorLock··on Erg: a statically typed language that is Python compatible
>ensuring I don't break anything by making changes

I think this is a problem in both static and dynamic languages and is pretty much solved in the same way: you test your code.

VectorLock··on I hacked my car
If you're implementing a knocking protocol, you probably know enough to change the default password.

Whats wrong with terminal fetishism?
VectorLock··on Study finds link between 'forever chemicals' in cookware and liver cancer
I've heard people advocate for _not_ rinsing toothpaste out of your mouth after brushing and while the premise seems sound (gives flouride more time to work) it just sounds nasty.
VectorLock··on The World Excel Championship is being broadcast on ESPN
We're blocked! sobbing. We're blocked!

This person definitely worked at a tech company where as soon as someone has to wait more than 2 seconds they start histrionically marking tickets as blockers.

Every one of their videos is so pitch perfect for the tech world. "Microservices" is my favorite.
VectorLock··on Cellular recovery after prolonged warm ischaemia of the whole body
Given their inability to deliver packages the first try, I'm not sure I'd trust them with transporting vital organs.
VectorLock··on Asus Zenfone 9
I am considering moving away from the Pixel, they seem to be going downhill, so your post was a great confirmation, thank you.
VectorLock··on Asus Zenfone 9
On a scale of Samsung to Google, how bad does Asus load up their Android with crapware?
VectorLock··on You have a sad feeling for a moment, then it passes
Reddit has the same problem. Nobody actually applies "upvote what adds to the conversation."
VectorLock··on Eve Online's most notorious player has quit the game
There would be no point in him starting from scratch with a new identity. It wasn't the game he liked, it was the notoriety. Most people in EVE Online at this strata aren't even really "playing" the game, its all metagame at that point.
VectorLock··on Why we ignore thousands of daily car crashes
My brother does this and it drives me crazy when I'm a passenger in his car, I can't fathom how he just deals with it.
VectorLock··on VanMoof’s team of ‘bike hunters’ appears to succeed where the city doesn’t
Based on some of these videos it looks like they also have some radio direction finding or proximity tracker in addition to the GPS. GPS gets them into a circular area then they have to run around to pinpoint it.
VectorLock··on RSS is back as an underpinning to SlackOps
The email filter you never check is now a Slack channel you've muted.
VectorLock··on Smart mushroom growing device for beginners
All things must be made Blades and Razors.
VectorLock··on Playstation store will remove customer’s purchased movies
Sony threatened to ban my account and I'd lose all the games and other content I paid for, if I did a charge-back on them when they had a security breach and I kept getting fraudulent charges on my card that they wouldn't refund.
VectorLock··on Ultra-flat timepiece, the RM UP-01 Ferrari, is 1.75 millimetres thick watch
I mean, everything is thick and heavy compared to the watch linked in this post.
