VectorLock··on Notice of termination of Twitter merger agreement
"ha ha only serious."

>But it's unclear to me what he initially thought he was getting out of this.

The best hypothesis I've heard is that he was trying to secure the raw materials that Tesla's stock price is made out of.

VectorLock··on Climate protection: CO2 turned into methanol
You have two things that burn fuel and produce CO2. Thing A burns fuel, its CO2 isn't released but captured. That captured CO2 fuel is then burned at Thing B and released. Half. (if you assume the energy from reprocessing the CO2 into fuel doesn't produce Co2 itself and comes from clean sources)
VectorLock··on Climate protection: CO2 turned into methanol
But then you're only releasing it once, rather than twice as much. Hence: half.
VectorLock··on DevOps is a failure
You're just replacing one set of people with access to customer data with another.

In either case you should be implementing least-privileges. Only the access to data that a person needs to get their job done. More frequently this is developers than operations people.

VectorLock··on Climate protection: CO2 turned into methanol
Capturing CO2 to be burned elsewhere sounds like releasing half the CO2. Not great, but better?
VectorLock··on It is your responsibility to follow up (2019)
The most "follow-up" emails I get are from spammy sales people I already hit "Report Spam" on their previous emails.

Guess I'm not important enough to be chased until exhaustion, held down, and have my face screamed into.

VectorLock··on Goodbye Zachtronics
Most games have some kind of Credits sequence, I'm surprised someone isn't feverishly documenting them in a wiki somewhere.
VectorLock··on Diagram as Code
I think you can still use ordinary functions to string things together as well. I also don't like the abuse of context managers in this way.
VectorLock··on I fucking hate Jira
Jira isn't great but the Confluence editor causes me more frustration than anything. And good luck getting anything in or out of Confluence with their document model.
VectorLock··on Laddering a Chimney (1978) [video]
There would then need to be ladders over most of the surface of the chimney, and with the anchors for the ladder mortared into the chimney, and the whole point of climbing the ladder in the first place is to repoint the mortar, you couldn't rely on the anchors being sound.
VectorLock··on Getting humanity to bounce back faster in a post-apocalyptic world
The Miami apartment building collapse has shown us, probably not long enough in some cases.
VectorLock··on Getting humanity to bounce back faster in a post-apocalyptic world
Better hop to it, that steel isn't going to last forever.
VectorLock··on Show HN: SetOps – Run containers, databases and more in your own AWS account
Why is your tool better than the others?
VectorLock··on Show HN: SetOps – Run containers, databases and more in your own AWS account
So that naturally leads to the question... which of them are good?
VectorLock··on Dear Crypto
Might be taking a page out of the WikiLeaks playbook. They liked to mete out their leaks in stages to keep the attention on them.
VectorLock··on Tesla customer gets new Model 3 with cracks
Cachet of saying you own a Tesla is about it.
VectorLock··on AWS SNS vs. SQS – Main Differences
I wish SNS had a way to have a process receive a message, or have a Watcher for it in an AWS SDK like Boto. Feels like a big hole in actually using SNS as a pub/sub mechanism. Much simpler than having to setup and maintain an HTTP endpoint.
VectorLock··on Jack Dorsey leaves Twitter's board of directors
Tweet deleted.
VectorLock··on Jack Dorsey leaves Twitter's board of directors
Everybody holding $TSLA based on the stock price.
VectorLock··on Ask HN: What game do you wish existed?
>they're all best played very consistently for many hours at a time

Why do you think that? BotW I found was very amenable to consuming in short hour or two sessions, although it was incredibly easy to get sucked in for longer.

VectorLock··on Starlink for RVs
North east area is strangely mottled. Is that just people in certain towns/cells have ordered more? Why does this even matter for an RV?
VectorLock··on Netflix lays off about 150 employees
One might say Brendan Gregg saw this coming as well.

VectorLock··on Netflix lays off about 150 employees
Liquor stores.
VectorLock··on Billion-Dollar Crypto Loan Is Easy to Get, but Gone in a Flash
They might be limited but people seem to be figuring out how to cause all kinds of havoc with them.
VectorLock··on I finally got Twitter after years of not getting it
I've been a long-time Twitter user and I recently switched to "See latest Tweets instead" and I had the same conclusion, the "algorithm" was actually doing a decent job of surfacing new stuff for me that I liked. I missed it pretty quick and switched back. I think doing the manual curation to tell the algo what you _don't_ want to see helps immensely.
VectorLock··on Billion-Dollar Crypto Loan Is Easy to Get, but Gone in a Flash
"Hardening against all attack vectors" seems to be working out as well in DeFi as it is in the rest of the technology world.
VectorLock··on Billion-Dollar Crypto Loan Is Easy to Get, but Gone in a Flash
Maybe not having that ability be available to "anyone" is actually a good thing.
VectorLock··on Computer work lying down comfortably with a home-made stand over the bed
Your setup looks great, I like the pipe frame and what I presume are casters to move it around.

I've had my eye out for a dentist chair for a long time to try to build something similar.

VectorLock··on Automating Road Maintenance with Lidar Technology
Seems like a good application for accelerometers as well.
