Edit : Assuming you were not asking for proof, only information, see : http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2009%E2%80%932011_Toyota_vehicl.... Note that "After a 10 month search, NASA and NHTSA scientists found no electronic defect in Toyota vehicles. Driver error or pedal misapplication was found responsible for most of the incidents". But the dive in Toyota stock price, sales, and most importantly, brand image, was enough to send the message. Toyota stocked surged 20% after the then-Japanese PM resigned after his failure to get the US off of Okinawa.
In general, considering the 8 U.S. military bases in Tokyo (not Japan, just Tokyo), and in particular, the 31000 sq metre military base in the centre of the city, in Roppongi (prime real estate worth at least $60 m, with a few military helicopters landing/taking off from there every day, and a lot more towards the weekend), IMHO, Japan is an occupied territory not too different from Afghanistan or Iraq. IMHO, the role of Japan in the scheme of things as designed by the US is to hold US debt, giving legitimacy to the piece of paper printed by the Treasury. The entire Toyota drama was about Japan trying to assert it's independence and not follow orders.
Firstly, that is not what I tried to say. I tried to say, "There's a whole bunch of Apple-apologist-upvoters", and for this...
> you are presenting no argument or evidence
...I did present evidence : the comment is the top comment, which means it was upvoted, eh?
I'm not arguing against Apple, but pointing out the prevalance of fawning brand-loyal upvoters.
There was a great comment on the NYTimes article by someone called Stevi that I would like to quote here, "Yoga doesn't wreck the body. People wreck their bodies by practicing yoga with a lack of awareness and by taking classes from instructors who don't have enough experience. Yoga is an ancient discipline--a tool for self-realization. It's unfair to hold yoga responsible for our misuse of it. Yoga involves an eight-fold path of which asana is only one tenant. If you are practicing asana without without the other aspects of yoga such as ahimsa (non-harm), santosha (contentment), aparigraha (non-greed), etc., then you are destined for problems. Find a good teacher, and yoga is the greatest gift."
That's how the average user IS. That's what Apple has shown us with the phenomenal success of their iPhone, iPad products. It's the "Don't make me think" philosophy taken to an extreme.
I'm guessing that you are probably like me, a command line aficionado. They call it "simplification" of the user interface, but we feel that there's an element of idioticization there, too! :-) I mean, how do they get things done when there's no place to TYPE?! It's scary to have no place to type. :-)
I could potentially point out politely that she is playing the gender card.
So it's very, very, important to read this because a particular gender's lives are at stake, and this gender, lest you forget, is very, very important.
Have you ever seen a man write like this, ever ready to use their gender as a VIP card?
Then there's her "business" icon. Is that a semi-stripper?? Is that a post-it note? Is her skirt hanging down into the space between the Y?
Have you ever seen many men promote their businesses using their sexuality or gender as a card?
No, this is not a "vicious" hate crime or "attack" on Women Bloggers. This is an "attack" on A particular woman blogger who is clearly using her gender as both a food stamp and a responsibility-shield to get by in this world. For a counterexample, @see jeanhsu.com. No whoring there.
FYI, I have a new Android phone (Galaxy S2) and I would have never realized this had I not been on HN! I wonder how you can get yourself more publicity? Maybe advertise more?
Some apps such as OneNote sync themselves between my laptop (Windows 7) and desktop PC (XP).
For others, such as Firefox Scrapbook, I run a manual rsync (on cygwin) running via an ssh tunnel. svn and remote desktop access, too, are via the ssh tunnel.
No DropBox, no Microsoft SkyDrive.
Most of the times that I have sat down at the same desk for 2 hours, I have regretted it. It's sub-optimal unless you are literally just typing in what is already known.
