ampdepolymerase··on Why is Ubuntu Getting so much HATE?
Canonical has always been getting a lot of hate because they are the biggest fish. When smaller distros switch things up or trade off flexibility for UX they are called "opinionated". When a big player does it all of a sudden it is the end of the world. You do not see Elementary OS getting this much vitriol. The complaints about Snap are hardly new. Linux people were crying and screaming when they updated the desktop environment and init system too. It is unrealistic to expect a both consumer and enterprise focused company to exist solely based on the needs of a few minority developers.

Emerging economy, massive for growth. Low enforcement of white collar crimes/business regulations. Somewhat corrupt but not too corrupt. Just enough to grease the wheels and take advantage of EU rule arbitrage.

Another interesting book is the People's Republic of Walmart which is a more layman version of Cockshott's book.

ampdepolymerase··on Sale of amateur radio AMPRnet TCP/IP addresses raised $108M
Let's hope no IoT company is stupid enough to send customer data over this. Stuff like LoRa is very popular these days, but they are low bandwidth. Would not be surprising if a company decides that MVNO providers are too expensive and rolls their own communications infrastructure.

You will almost certainly need a neural accelerator for this, neural networks are currently the only known effective solution for cocktail party problems.

True, but SROs have a lot less oversight than the SEC.

As a reminder, despite having the word "authority" in its name, FINRA is a completely private organisation and does not directly answer to any legislative, judicial, or executive authority.

Or version 3, the powers that be ask you nicely to hand over your device. The fourth and fifth offers only very limited protection in the digital sphere and current precedents on decryption and access can easily be overrode by courts.

Regulate as utilities/infrastructure. Nobody likes the Ma Bell type of anti-trust because it feels like infringing on private property rights but regulating as utility or infrastructure is much widely accepted and palatable. However if you have poor management then you end up in the P&G situation with blame passing from one generation of management to another and no real improvements.

ampdepolymerase··on $1 hearing aid could treat millions with hearing loss
For a few dollars more it is possible to put a FPGA with perhaps a neural accelerator on it. It may tremendously simplify some of the DSP stack. More importantly, there should be a full-proof app or UI to allow the user to tune the hearing aid appropriately (or coupled with a training course for audiologists in the targeted regions to do so).

No battery doesn't always necessarily imply safety. In this case it is definitely safe due to the low power but you probably don't want to walk around a TV transmission ground station holding a giant high gain antenna in your bare hands (this particular scenario is unlikely to happen in real life but it does make for an interesting thought experiment)
