aninteger··on Operating System Development Series (2008)
Anything on amd64 with a focus on acpi? Pretty my a requirement for modern x86 os dev these days.
aninteger··on Sergey Brin invests in synthetic beef
I assume you are talking about MorningStar or Boca products. They aren't that bad are they? I eat a lot of red meat. Probably for both lunch and sometimes dinner almost every single day. It's gotten to a point to where cooking a meal without meat is an extreme challenge.
aninteger··on Working on an Android tablet: first six weeks
Are there any blogs where an android tablet was used to do actual java development?
aninteger··on GCC and C vs C++ Speed, Measured
Well, yes you are correct. However if you need the fastest sorting you're probably gonna inline the comparison regardless of language. If qsort is slow due to the function pointer comparison just move it inline manually.
aninteger··on Netflix no longer issuing new API keys
I think there was a story recently about how Netflix encodes each video multiple times for the various boxes and television sets. If they had their own box they could be more in control of at least one of those encoding formats.
aninteger··on Writing Web Applications in Go
I can't downvote but I'm using C/C++ in 2013 instead of Go simply because Go is not portable enough. There is currently no PowerPC port and that is still a requirement for me.
aninteger··on How to build a news app that never goes down and costs you practically nothing
Can you help me understand why someone would host static content on S3 versus any other host? Is it because S3 automatically scales up when traffic increases? I know almost nothing about S3.
aninteger··on Tell HN: You guys scared edw519 off Hacker News
See here: http://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=4365778
aninteger··on SourceTree for Windows beta
Wait.. we have a senior source control manager and we are using TFS. Sometimes clicking through the gui based wizards to merge two branches is to difficult for C# devs these days. His expertise in right clicking is truly remarkable. I fear for the day we move to distributed source control.
aninteger··on Fabrice Bellard: Portrait of a super-productive programmer (2011)
Fabrice is awesome. I am also extremely impressed with the code written by a guy that goes by the name of Bisqwit. He has multiple videos speed coding here: http://www.youtube.com/user/Bisqwit
aninteger··on DuckDuckGo Terminal Emulator
Default key bindings on korn shell are VI..
aninteger··on Why C++ is back
Still, it doesn't have much of a presence in the Ask HN: "Who's Hiring" threads. Nor Dice.com or Monster...
aninteger··on Changing times for web developers
Same here. This site and Steve Yegge's site fail to load in the stock cyanogen browser. Also they fail with Opera Mini. They do work with the Firefox Android browser at least.
aninteger··on 21st Century C (new book)
What do you recommend over libxml? And by libxml did you really mean libxml2? I prefer to work with a DOM parser and I don't know of anything better.
aninteger··on Top Surprises When Starting Out as a Software Developer
Which graphical toolkit system and xml parsing library are you referring to?
aninteger··on Paid Vacation? That’s Not Cool. You Know What’s Cool? Paid, Paid Vacation.
Estonia is helping Greece now? Do you have some news source?
aninteger··on Megaupload Founder Goes From Arrest to Cult Hero
Hollywood should do what Hollywood does best. I'm still waiting for the movie "based on a true story".
aninteger··on Bye Bye Craigslist
How is this different from when Bing was using Google search results? If people want to use Padmapper great. if people want to use Craigslist then great.. Am I missing something here? I don't see the problem. What if it were the other way around?
aninteger··on Express for Desktop allows for non-metro development in Visual Studio 2012
What's really really interesting to me is that they've removed the ribbon from the menu system. I'm happy about this, but I know a lot of people loved the ribbon UI.

Or at least it appears that way from the screenshots in your link.

aninteger··on Express for Desktop allows for non-metro development in Visual Studio 2012
I'm not sure they want those to disappear. Some of Microsoft's own products are written using Win32, like Office, and Internet Explorer. I think this is more about providing a C++ compiler for developers that are unable to spend the $499 on Visual Studio Professional.
aninteger··on Express for Desktop allows for non-metro development in Visual Studio 2012
So, is Express for Desktop the only wait to get a free C++ compiler from Microsoft now? Last I read, they removed the C++ compiler and C runtime from the Windows SDK.

http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/hardware/hh852363.as...

As long as they continue to ship a C++ compiler freely, I'll be happy.

aninteger··on Visual Studio 2012 RC Available Now
Looks like this is shaping up to be the "Maddox Visual Studio, the best Visual Studio on the internet". Capital letters, black backgrounds, now we just need insulting error messages full of manliness.
aninteger··on Most popular browser missing (Chrome)...
There's a subreddit on reddit about First World Problems. This doesn't even seem like it would qualify for that.

Sorry, I just don't get why this was voted up or is that important.

aninteger··on It Takes 6 Days to Change 1 Line of Code
I agree with you here. That's a ton of free time. Unfortunately Ed probably posts one disgruntled story each month. I predict he'll post one next month too. He wont quit, he'll just complain on Hacker News.
aninteger··on Is C++ the Language of the Future?
Why would the language of the future be any one specific language? Many languages can make use of multiple cores through threading/open-mp like libraries.
aninteger··on Arch Linux turns 10
Good points here. I currently run Arch but would be interested in seeing sort of a LTS style Arch that would only update packages with security updates and other stable packages. I guess that would require a lot of maintenance though.
aninteger··on OpenSSL’s tools don’t support IPv6, patches unmerged without reason for 5 years
Is there any way to read this without signing into a Google account. On my mobile device I am getting a prompt to sign into Google.
aninteger··on What Happens to the Coke in Coca-Cola?
I assume you mean it's available at those neighborhood retailer pharmacies (CVS, Walgreens?) and with a prescription? Could you explain more?
aninteger··on Mercurial vs Git: Why Mercurial?
I'm pretty sure jcoder was being sarcastic :).
aninteger··on Mercurial vs Git: Why Mercurial?
Regarding the "A Sane Command Line Interface" topic. Linus mentioned in his talk at Google about Git that he often chose the opposite approach to do things rather than follow the Subversion approach. This might be why the commands are not named the same as Subversion commands.

git add/rm handles making changes to the index and there is no similar concept in mercurial or subversion.
