anonfunction··on Just tell me how to use Go Modules
If you frequent reddit/r/golang you'll see this question pops up quite frequently and the comments have many differing suggestions.

Golang has really nice cross compilation features, it's as easy as setting two environment variables `GOOS` and `GOARCH` when building.

I don't think these even have a camera.

anonfunction··on Show HN: Automatically Invest Spare Change in Cryptocurrencies
The projected value is pretty optimistic, it says if you invest $15,500 over three years you could get an expected return of $4,619,173.07 with the conservative portfolio...

anonfunction··on Almost 80% of US workers live from paycheck to paycheck
All those factors are good incentives to stay employed. This keeps the economy moving forward. Credit is what keeps most people afloat during economic hardship which then provides even greater incentive to work more hours.
anonfunction··on Show HN: Markdown New Tab, a New Tab Replacement to Jot Down Notes in Markdown
Love the idea, one of the few extensions I would install and I did. Unfortunately first the shortcut didn't work because I'm on a mac and I had to use the command not control key. Then the animations on keypress just we're too cute much for me. I want a text editor and I realized I always have one open anyways and that's where I will continue to do so.

I suggest adding options for any flare like animations and perhaps some basic themes like this one[1]. Utilizing the new tab screen is a great idea.

anonfunction··on The relativistic discriminator: a key element missing from standard GAN
Thanks for correcting me! I commonly call a group of people "guys" even if they are women, this is something I need to break the habit of. Will strive to be gender neutral in the future.

Same guy who wrote this has another post called Deep learning with cats[1] which has a great open source repo[2] with multiple GANs.

Is there any documentation at all? I couldn't find any. The playground[1] isn't useful without the schema.

anonfunction··on Apple is rebuilding Maps from the ground up
Living in the United States both google and apple maps have been really good for a long time. After moving to Vietnam I’ve found both to be not accurate. Many times I’ll find a place on google then have the map show a completely different address and street then the actual address.
anonfunction··on Ask HN: Any designer want to help with a free tool I'm developing?

anonfunction··on Show HN: Generate regex from a set of string

anonfunction··on How ARKit 2 works, and why Apple is so focused on AR
Translate foreign signs in place, augment plane tickets with realtime flight details, see products in your house before you buy them... just off top of my head.
anonfunction··on Ask HN: What framework/language should I use?
Check out Golang for the server, it's a statically typed language so it's fast and hard to introduce subtle bugs that can cause a lot of confusion. There is a ton of interest and mindshare moving towards Go and it's supported by Google so it's not going anywhere. Big projects like Docker and Kubernetes are written in Go.

For a web application I think most of the work will be in the frontend which basically means javascript. We've had a lot of success using Golang for the backend APIs and React for the frontend.

anonfunction··on Ask HN: Why should I use Elasticsearch instead of building from scratch
To leverage the thousands of hours that went into it.
anonfunction··on What to Do When a Loved One Is Severely Depressed
I think what is missing is what set of circumstances would trigger you to execute your plans. If it’s “world wide epidemic which causes extreme pain and suffering with less than 5% chance of survival” that is one thing. However if you are planning your suicide in case you lose your job or your significant other cheats on you then that would be concerning and reason to seek help.
anonfunction··on Network.framework: A modern alternative to sockets
Which makes sense from a business point of view. Obviously that doesn’t always align with a hacker mindset but there is a reason Apple is worth almost a trillion dollars.

>> optional ability to overlay an empty full size block so the image cant easily be right clicked and saved

I believe he wants the opposite of that, putting a div over the image so it cannot be right clicked and saved.

anonfunction··on The vgo proposal is accepted. Now what?
I've seen a few that used 1.0.3 which is also common among python and other languages. One of the biggest new go projects, istio[1], uses the 1.0.3 style.

I'll switch over in the future and keep existing tags for dep users.

anonfunction··on The vgo proposal is accepted. Now what?
Yes I am talking about git tags.

I purposely followed semver 2.0.0 which doesn't mention anything about a "v" prefix. Thanks for finding an old mention of version control tagging!

At the end of the day it's not a big deal. I will just duplicate the tags so it won't break any dep configurations.

anonfunction··on The vgo proposal is accepted. Now what?
I really do not like the “semver-like” versioning string requirement. My packages are already tagged with valid semver releases and now I need to change them by adding a “v” prefix.

If you don’t know what I’m talking about vgo requires the release to be tagged like “v1.0.3” which is not standard semver.
