binarray2000··on Watchdog: U.S. Paid for 'World's Most Expensive' Gas Station in Afghanistan
DoD... isn't that the department for which then Secretary (Donald Rumsfeld) admitted "According to some estimates we cannot track $2.3 trillion in transactions"? Interestingly, he announced that, along with the "War on Waste", on Sept. 10, 2001. [1]

binarray2000··on The Law That Makes U.S. Expats Toxic
> attribute his lack of sympathy to apathy

I wrote "the Average Joe cannot think", not "the Average Joe doesn't want to think". Other than that, I agree.

binarray2000··on The Law That Makes U.S. Expats Toxic
You must look at it from the perspective of the Oligarchy: Wars, regime-changes, support to "moderate" forces, spying on the world just cost money. And you cannot afford all that by only taxing those at home. You need every dollar. So, you tax the expats (8.7 million of them!). They are abroad to work after all - they MUST have earnings. As an alibi for your new revenue source, you pass a new law (Fatca) while saying that you fight "terrorism, tax evasion and organised crime". Again! The game you have played so well (and so often) in the past still works. This time it's even easier: Expat "elitists" have no representation, and the Average Joe cannot think about Fatca when he comes back home - tired and overworked - after two jobs, worrying about his CC debt and plethora of other issues.

Yeah, guns are good... at least for something. :))))
binarray2000··on Trans-Pacific Partnership Trade Deal Is Reached
So basically, you are for sacrificing democracy on the altar of secrecy. "Clueless people" are always dangerous. And "every political player" can "rally them up". Yes! That's how it should be! People must be informed and have rights to organize and protest for or against something. All fan-boys of diverse trade agreements have only one thing to defend: Secrecy. (And, for the sanity of the discussion, throw out such words as "drinking the kool-aid")
binarray2000··on Trans-Pacific Partnership Trade Deal Is Reached
I don't. No one does (besides people who have negotiated it). AND EXACTLY THAT IS THE PROBLEM! Those who are elected are kept in the dark, too: http://www.ip-watch.org/2015/09/09/german-bundestag-not-happ...

Maybe we the citizens are just plain stupid to understand so we need to be persuaded: https://www.techdirt.com/articles/20140620/14292827638/us-em...

(Just like we were for Iraq war)

One of the examples of the "brave new world": http://www.theguardian.com/environment/2015/may/22/eu-droppe...

You want you and your children and grandchildren to live in it?

If TTIP is SOOOO great why secrecy, why so many people who don't have financial interest in it are against it?

I could write a lot about it...

This is unbelievable: This news got kicked to page 15 of HN and is, as of now, the last news (#447)! Even thou it got submitted only "1 hour ago" and already has 21 points. That's rather sudden and awkward thing to happen!

binarray2000··on Refugees Welcome
>>> It "amazes" me why these "refugees" flock to Germany or Great Britain and not to their very wealthy brethren in countries such as Kuwaii, Egypt, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Arab Emirates, etc... Same culture, same religion and they are much closer!

Some of the "alternative" countries you mention are direct supporters of the forces who have caused or are themselves involved in wars in countries from where refugees come. And despite "same" culture, "same" religion and proximity, I assume, these countries don't want to import social and financial problems.

>>> It also amazes me why the EU leaders insist for other European countries to accept these "refugees" when the majority of EU countries is not responsible for this situation at all.

As for EU countries not being responsible: UK, France and Germany (and other EU and non-EU NATO member countries in their tow) are very well directly involved and responsible. Political destabilization, intelligence services involvement, boots on the ground, flying aeroplanes and drones (and dropping bombs) over their heads, supporting local "rebel" forces. In Afghanistan, Iraq, Syria, Libya, Yemen - they are all over the place. So, it's "natural" that the "weapons of mass immigration" are heading towards EU.

>>> Luckily there are some leaders out there that are not afraid of this stupid political correctness and they build fences on their borders because they know what this might lead to.

No, European "leaders" are not stupid for building fences. OK, they are... because by building fences they are dealing with the effect and not solving the cause. They are stupid for making themselves marionettes to the Oligarchy. For letting their countries become vassal states. Especially funny, all ex Warsaw-bloc countries, in pursuit of "freedom", have flocked in the arms of another tyrant (instead of trying being truly independent). Last but not least, they are stupid for not building good trans Atlantic ships and sending the refugees to the Oligarchy.

binarray2000··on “Suspicion of treason”: German attorney general investigates journalists
http://homment.com/atlantikbruecke

OK, it's not the CIA... And this is not about "evil Yankees" (because, a "Yankee" is not evil). It's about journalists who actually should put all organizations they are member of, just as F1 drivers do with their sponsors, on their suits so that the news consumer can know who's interests they represent: US, Russian, Chinese...

binarray2000··on Minister No More
This whole Greek economic (and now social) crisis is one muddy thing. At first, until Syriza came to power, I have understood what's been happening between the key players. The "story behind", while never completely told by the media, was clear. With Syriza, that's no longer the case. For example: The way they have negotiated with the creditors, their whole communication with the media, who financed them. Totally contradictory. And now, the man in the duo Varoufakis resigns... What a show! But, what's behind it?

The game is played again and again and again: How to suck out the common man and make him dependable. "We the people" are silent. Mostly.
binarray2000··on American Trailer Parks: The owners are getting rich
What a perversion! The richest country in the world celebrates trailer parks. Even "upscale trailer parks". OK, one has to admit, it is an improvement over tent cities. No wonder these exist. When you're giving hundreds of billions to gamblers and nothing for social housing you get "ghetto" areas which even police avoids. You officially live in a free country and you surely can go into those areas but it's questionable if you'll come back with your life and your possesions.

binarray2000··on US Threatened Germany Over Snowden, Vice Chancellor Says
According to Wikipedia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_United_States_Army_inst...) US has 35 existing bases in Germany and has closed 207 (!) bases in the past. Some of the most important (strategic importance and size) are in Germany. To think that such a huge military presence has "exactly zero to do" with how freely German government can make decisions which would be contrary to the US interests is an illusion.
binarray2000··on US Threatened Germany Over Snowden, Vice Chancellor Says
Don't hope for that. Europe is deeply divided. Everyone hates and blames "the others" for their own mistakes and problems, most of which were caused by political and economic (big business) elites in those countries. Not to forget, both US and Russia have their minions in Europe.
binarray2000··on US Threatened Germany Over Snowden, Vice Chancellor Says
> I'm actually astonished given Germany's strength in Europe that they didn't just say GFY!

Germany isn't a sovereign country. Having foreign (US) troops on your soil makes you dependable on the policies of that foreign country. There are many other reasons why Germany cannot (and doesn't want) to "say GFY" to the US.

binarray2000··on President Obama Calls for a Free and Open Internet
> Four million comments to the FCC is a Big Deal. Great!

> There's a huge amount of public support for Net Neutrality, plus all the money in Silicon Valley. There we have it: Interest. This time for NN. Another great thing.

> Whining about how we can't do anything because big cable and their bought legislators is wrong and counterproductive. For the sake of keeping this discussion sane, let's not use such words as "whining". Now, as a supporter of NN, I've described things one has to be aware of as well. I wish and hope positive attitude of the people like you will prevail and that NN will be protected by law.

binarray2000··on President Obama Calls for a Free and Open Internet
1. Net neutrality (NN) is of essential importance for the free Internet, now and in the future.

2. Barack Obama (BO) can "call for" many things, but after the latest elections he cannot do much. Even if he, personally and as a POTUS, would want to do something to protect NN.

3. If you hope GOP will do something about it... well, harsh reality is this: Republicans will do what corporate interest wants them to do. Democrats (along with BO) were doing the same. Now that GOP has the majority in both the congress and the senate they MIGHT pay lip service to the issue, but, nothing will change in essence.

4. Maybe you think/hope, people will go out on the streets, write petitions, fight for NN. If recent history teaches us something it's this: Snowden revelations didn't move much US citizens on to the streets. And, compared to NN, it was a larger issue.

(Hope for a better world is something to strive for, but after all these years, I've realized that there is only one reality: Interest. And Big Money has a lot of it to fight NN)

binarray2000··on [dead]
Yes, talking about a PR problem when innocent people are dying is bad. Yes, this article is full of praises for Israel, and that can be understood as propaganda. We can also argue about the term "terrorist": Brits have called (Boston) Tea Party folks "terrorists", for US they are heroes. Yes, it is really, really, really awful when innocent human beings die (children, women, men - it doesn't matter). YET: Hamas isn't going out to the desert and attacking Israel. They deliberately choose densely populated Gaza areas, full of innocent people (yes, many of them may have sympathy for Hamas, but that isn't a crime), taking in account that the counterattack will kill many civilians. While the bombs that have killed all those people have come from Israel, the decision to kill them was made by Hamas.
binarray2000··on SaveTheInternet.eu – the EU vote on net neutrality tomorrow
We have the same story again, and again, and again... No matter if it's called SOPA or if it's wrapped in some other cloth, the intention is the same: Big business wants to preserve its cash cows (interests) by fending off pesky competition.

We think that our representatives need more information, so we educate them. But, as much as I think that is true, at the end of the day they'll vote along their party line, no matter if we educate them or not.

We're fighting with words (educating), big business with money (buying lobbyists). And they are prepared to ruin their vocal opponents, even drive them towards suicide (Aaron Swartz).

Sorry for being pessimistic.
