binarycheese··on Using Objective-C On The Server
I don't think Objective-C was ever designed for large scale Enterprise projects.

binarycheese··on Michael Arrington on Racism: The Game
I believe you are right. Honestly, I don't Mike is racist but the "Passive Attitude" that he can't think of any black founder - when he clearly knows some is kind of dishonest.
binarycheese··on Michael Arrington on Racism: The Game
"It is hard not to notice that the usual top commenters avoid ths topic like a plague."

I've also noticed that.

binarycheese··on Ask HN: I think My code isn't Good enough
Extremely well put. Took me alot of humility to get to get to this conclusion.
binarycheese··on Google Buys Motorola For $12.5 Billion
Google Appliance
binarycheese··on A writer leaves Microsoft Word
Excel only adds up to about 6 decimals. I worked on a project of an Endowment Fund (billions) and Excel was flat out wrong when computing billions over decades.

The worst part is: Excel is the Dogma. If your results do not match with Excel, make it.

binarycheese··on Is a web app earning $100/month a failure?
You can use this app as a learning experience (education) for creating a bigger and more profitable app
binarycheese··on Google bid pi billion dollars for Nortel patents (and lost)
That's classic. Any references will be appreciated.
binarycheese··on Ask HN: Do Americans stand a chance on freelance sites?
Exactly. Last year I had to choose between a 600 lawyer and a 6k lawyer, guess whom I went with? The 6k lawyer, because even though I am not a lawyer, I could tell the $600 dude was just rambling and did not even understand the seriousness of my case (or maybe he just didn't care)
binarycheese··on Why Nairobi is exploding as the tech hub of East Africa
No. Tropical.
binarycheese··on Bilingualism makes the mind sharper (and helps forestall Alzheimer's)
For the most part, I usually think in pseudo-code
binarycheese··on Why Java folks should look forward to Scala
I still can't believe how many people are unaware of C#. Coming from a java background, C# is a far better route than Scala.

The Scala syntax, I must say is not as readable: def apply() = l map (_())

binarycheese··on Video: Google's New Sea-Cooled Data Center
"It used to be a paper mill". Now its a data center.

Great to see factories evolving

binarycheese··on Microsoft's office: Why insiders think top management has lost its way
Zune Phone would have been better than that horrible WP7 name.
binarycheese··on Mono for Android released with Visual Studio 2010 integration
WP7 requires Windows 7 and a lot of us are still developing on XP
binarycheese··on Can You Really Build A Great Tech Firm Outside Silicon Valley?
Yes. But you might not get the Silicon Valley buzz like some "answers" websites are getting.
binarycheese··on Office comparison: 37signals vs Zappos
You are confusing gamers with programmers
binarycheese··on Android 2.4 confirmed for April release
Still waiting for my N1 (T-Mobile) to get 2.3

My colleague actually still has 1.6 on his Motorola Clique (T-Mobile)

binarycheese··on Build Android native code in Visual Studio 2010

binarycheese··on Google Groups Data To Be Destroyed
Google Groups is one of the worst Google web apps (from a programming stand point). You cannot add code snippets easily, the search is horrible and you cannot even format code/text easily like in http://code.google.com.

Have they seen stackoverflow.com?

binarycheese··on Why rebel groups love the Toyota Hilux
West Cameroon (or Southern Cameroon) is West Africa. Cameroun (or La Republique du Cameroun or East Cameroon) is Central Africa
binarycheese··on Why rebel groups love the Toyota Hilux
Not ytue in West Africa. If you want to show status/money, get an Escalade or a Land Cruiser.

I used a Hilux in West Cameroon on the muddy/mountain side roads in the rainy season. It is very reliable.

Its predecessor - Toyota Stout, has no "Four-Wheel", yet on First Gear, it is more stable climbing muddy hills in bad weather than an F350 or any Chevy its size

binarycheese··on Why Android devs are losing money, and it’s not due to piracy
You obviously don't develop large/similar applications do you?

We have custom controls (text boxes, listviews, dynamic formviews) that inherit from Android controls, that are reused over 15+ applications. It was hell building them scratch because the main app was a Java library (not an android app so the XML resources are useless).

I don't think you even understand what I'm saying. For example: Can you explain to me why the CheckedTextView control is available in XML but the class itself is abstract?

binarycheese··on Why Android devs are losing money, and it’s not due to piracy
Google thinks they can have lightning hit the same spot twice .i.e. crowd sourcing. It worked with Google Search but for the Android platform, Google will have to actually do some PR work. As an android developer, I got pretty frustrated by the lack of clear documentation and their horrible API. Chances are, if you are used to the Sun Java API (or even C# API), trying to develop in Android will easily get your frustrated with the Android API. Method names sound alien or don't really mean what they imply. Also, the whole XML resourced-based format prevents you from easily creating components dynamically (through java code) and referencing them in more than one project.

I could go on and on...

Even the Developer portal on the Android Market is just horrible. I'm not sure what they were trying to accomplish.

- 2 screen shots???

- extremely limited description?

- No clear text box for "Update Reason"?

- You can't respond to user ridiculous comments?

- Sometimes my paid apps get cancelled after two days of purchase

P/S: I have more than 1/2 million combined downloads

binarycheese··on U.S. Discovers Est. $1 Trillion of Minerals in Afghanistan
This is really a good read. You should definitely submit it separately here on HN
binarycheese··on The Real Cost of Owning a Car
BMW's are twice as expensive in Europe? You lost me there. I currently on vacation in Europe, and you won't believe some of the deals (on both brand new and used) BMW's I've seen.
binarycheese··on The Real Cost of Owning a Car
This is complete bull. Owning anything that depreciates in value is not a smart investment idea. Most wealthy people don't go around in a Prius. Even if they own one, they will always get a "safer" car for their family (at least) such as a Volvo, Benz or Range Rover.
