bradley_taunt··on Design of This Website (2021)
Would argue the same as others that this still falls more into “brutalist” rather than minimalism.

My website[0] is far from ideal, but certainly falls in line better with the term “minimalism” (page speed, assets loaded, initial paint etc)

bradley_taunt··on Ask HN: Are blog comments a thing of the past?
Not to “self promote” but I recently shared an article[0] detailing how I personally manage comments on my blog.

bradley_taunt··on I’m Disappointed with 1Password
It allows you to access Secrets via browser extension on those platforms (if I remember correctly)
bradley_taunt··on I’m Disappointed with 1Password
I’ve recently jumped the 1Password ship myself. I work mostly on Mac and iOS, so it was a no-brainer to switch to Secrets[0].

One time purchase, indie devs, support for use on Windows / Linux etc. Been very happy thus far.

bradley_taunt··on Ask HN: Alternatives to 1Password
This was a great write-up and very helpful. Been looking to make the switch over to something like this myself.
bradley_taunt··on Ketogenic Diets and Chronic Disease: Benefits vs. Risks
I’ve been in ketosis for roughly the last 4-5 years and I honestly couldn’t see myself going back to a “standard” diet. I’ve lost any real need to track macros heavily and have entered a state of “lazy keto” as some refer to it.

I didn’t switch for any weight loss reasons (I was quite in shape before starting - and still am). I merely just wanted to try it since I had seen it mentioned. For me the biggest switch over was the mental focus and energy benefits. I don’t wake up groggy anymore. My attention to detail has significantly increased. I feel more energetic and require less sleep.

These things are all personal and _not_ something guaranteed for everyone. But if you’re interested I’d say give a solid go.

bradley_taunt··on Simple.css – A classless CSS framework
A big fan of Simple CSS (I see a lot of personal sites using it, actually). I’ll also share my own minimal, classless CSS framework Vanilla CSS[0]

bradley_taunt··on I made my first web0 website today. It's so cool it just works
Just slap a viewport tag in the head of that bad boy and call it a day :)
bradley_taunt··on Entire website in a single HTML file
For those interested, I’ve created a Jekyll theme based on this very setup[0]

I also created a forked SSG based off of https://portable.fyi/ [1]

bradley_taunt··on AWS Private 5G
Came here to say exactly this. Out in rural Canada (Ontario) it is extremely difficult to find reliable, fast, unlimited access.

With Starlink delaying a good deal of preorders, something like this could be great.

bradley_taunt··on Ask HN: Did you find something to use your Raspberry Pi 400 for?
I turned mine into a pretty decent personal computer by switching over to booting via SSD. Some of the heat sink was removed and some inner plastic was sanded away to fit the SSD directly inside.

I even wrote about it[0] if anyone is interested!

bradley_taunt··on Blog.txt
What a shame - my broken concept somewhat fixed by the browsers…

And thank _you_ for having a lightweight site ;)

bradley_taunt··on Blog.txt
This would be awesome if the line wrapping issue was perfected on mobile.

For something less efficient and more stupid, I created Super Pseudo[0] a while back. Full website where all the content is solely in CSS.

bradley_taunt··on Stuffing an SSD Inside the Raspberry Pi 400
That project sounds really awesome actually - have any links or write ups on it?

Agreed with the cables. I’m keeping my eye out for some sort of minimal, flat ribbon cable that I could possibly have flush against the side of the casing.

bradley_taunt··on ET-Jekyll: Edward Tufte-inspired Jekyll theme
Good call! Will add it to my TODO list
bradley_taunt··on Create a Mac App Icon with Pure HTML and CSS
Yes someone else pointed that out as well - I plan to update the article soon!
bradley_taunt··on Everyone should become an HTML expert
If you’re referring to my personal site[0] - I agree 100% that is currently overly complex (working on updating it to be CSS-free soon)

bradley_taunt··on Eighty-Nine Blog Posts in a Single HTML File
It’s almost like a jump back to the 90s web. I find it refreshing!
bradley_taunt··on Nobody designs for small iPhone devices anymore
> Mobile first often made the experience suck for desktops.

I’d have to argue that poor design work in general is the cause for this. “Mobile first” never meant to neglect the desktop experience - designers who do that are just poor designers to begin with.

bradley_taunt··on Ask HN: What (side-)project are you working on?
That’s actually the post that inspired me! (I even commented on that original posting[0])

Please let me know if you run into any issues along the way.

bradley_taunt··on Ask HN: What (side-)project are you working on?
I just launched Writxt[0] a “walkthrough” to let you setup your own SMS to blog platform.

I also put up a stupid side project ThriftyName[1] where you get a brand name for $5.

bradley_taunt··on Show HN: Static Site Authoring via SMS
I posted the same in the parent comment above:

In case you were curious, I've just built out a project that walks through how to set up your own (very crude) SMS to Jekyll blog[0]

Really it would just be to tinker with it and maybe have sort of "notes" or "micro posts" on my own personal blog. Any changes / adaptions I happen to make I would certainly open source as well (although my programming quality might not be as good as your current project for all I know...)

I looked into basic Twilio SMS setup very recently, but it looked like I would find myself heavily invested in their documentation just to spin up something like you've made.

bradley_taunt··on Show HN: Static Site Authoring via SMS
I would also love to see this open sourced (even partially?). Would be awesome to setup some personal “blogs” based on this.
bradley_taunt··on Converting Custom Fonts to Base64 Strings
Depends on the original size of the font. Tends to increase that size by roughly 133%.
bradley_taunt··on PHPetite: A Single File Blog
Just for reference, the project has been updated to allow users to disable this automatic conversion[0]

[0] https://phpetite.org/#2021-02-18-disable-image-to-base64-con...

bradley_taunt··on PHPetite: A Single File Blog
Agreed 100%.

I plan to include an option to disable this for those who want to include images separately / hosted by 3rd parties.

bradley_taunt··on An Atonement of Nano
Thank you for sharing - this looks fantastic!
bradley_taunt··on Stripe Treasury
I'm normally a big fan of the web design work from Stripe - but this page is a mess on mobile Safari (iOS 10.3.3). It seems more and more companies are dropping basic support for "older" devices and it's a real shame. Having this look great on even very old devices should be simple, since this page doesn't even do anything that "cutting edge".
