burgerdev··on F-Hole (2016)
Five minutes seems overly optimistic ;)
burgerdev··on Stop Fabricating Travel Security Advice
> People who don’t own laptops, tablets and/or smartphones yet travel internationally don’t exist anymore.

Why would I take my electronics on a leisure trip? Isn't it enough to depend on them during work hours? Does this really rouse suspicion at CBP?

burgerdev··on Watching Wikipedia's extinction event from a distance
> How does an experienced user (he has 14k edits!) make an edit like that?

That's exactly how he made it to 14k.

burgerdev··on Why Do DMT Users See Insects from a Parallel Universe?
On the other hand, perhaps insects are ideal for (subconsciously) describing alien encounters. The mind has a good understanding about how insects look like (not like us), but it can barely imagine how it feels to be an insect.
burgerdev··on Why Do DMT Users See Insects from a Parallel Universe?
It is most prevalent among westerners writing fiction novels about alien praying mantis entities[1].

Jokes aside, as far as I know DMT is not the only compound that makes you see insects. For me, it kinda makes sense to interpret little 'irregularities' in your visual / tactile perceptions as, say, ants.

burgerdev··on Want to come to the US? Be prepared to hand over your passwords
Which in turn makes people without social media profiles more suspicious. Thinking that I was kind of satisfied after deleting my facebook account :( Will they eventually realize that "Give us your laptop's password!" is even more efficient?
burgerdev··on Smaller Code, Better Code
At first I was wondering how he managed to write a compiler in 750 loc. Then I noticed it's for APL, which I would call terse:

  Y0←{⊃,/((⍳≢⊃n⍵)((⊣sts¨(⊃l),¨∘⊃s),'}',nl,⊣ste¨(⊃n)var¨∘⊃r)⍵),'}',nl}

burgerdev··on Getting out of the cloud…
Isn't this how pretty much any mail client does it? Thunderbird does a decent job at spam filtering my mail. You know, I can even search folders in Outlook! Saying that scanning your 1M mails with 1kb each requires the use of a cloud service seems a bit over the top.

burgerdev··on Google's “Director of Engineering” Hiring Test
Did anyone bother to read up on this 'business' of his? I just spent some time in the Wayback Machine[1], and it strikes me as pretty odd: unbreakable encryptions systems (which are not disclosed), NSA backdoors everywhere and general paranoia.
burgerdev··on Yarn – A new package manager for JavaScript

Consider proof-reading the website: I wouldn't trust someone to do my crypto who can't spell the basics.

burgerdev··on GPL Time Bomb – an interesting approach to FOSS licensing
a) Site is down, google cache is here http://webcache.googleusercontent.com/search?q=cache:NBcmXVo...

b) The license file on GitHub does not mention GPL, a time frame or something even remotely related to the post - looks like some sort of shareware license.

c) If it's a good product today, will it still be a good product in 3 years? In today's version? I doubt it.

Still better than just selling binaries, but not by much.

burgerdev··on Ask HN: Best way to start and master Hadoop?
Reconsider whether you really need to: https://www.chrisstucchio.com/blog/2013/hadoop_hatred.html

(although it might look good on your CV)
