I agree. It is telling that Dario's post arrived after Astra.

The call to "pace the frontier" may come from genuine concern, but it also protects the position of companies already at the frontier. That competitive incentive is hard to separate from the safety argument.

chain of credit is important, and plagiarism is harmful.

But is science/mathematics ultimately a pursuit of knowledge, or a pursuit of recognition?

Recognition helps keep people motivated, but that shouldn't be the pursuit of science or mathematics.

cat-whisperer··on Creativity is the new moat
Agreed. People should experiment and let their creativity run rampant.

What stands between them and that is the current crop of AI design tools and skills. lovable, emergent, frontend-design, Impeccable. They ship someone else's taste and hand you a 95% website. Good website, not your website.

These tools are nozzles. They shape the flow before it leaves your hand. If you want creativity unchecked, use the raw tool.

I was thinking of this, but rendering PDF takes a lot out of a 400KB RAM'd device. It also needs a ton of things to actually work which the ROM can't hold.

Kindles have a ton of RAM, this one didn't.

It's funny that X3 is a successor of X4. Only downside is that X4 has a USB-C port and X3 doesn't

cat-whisperer··on Simple Is Not Small
It's a nice dissection of the topic. But I would like to reframe it as "Simple Is Not 'Always' Small."

Logic that the blog presents is sound; but sometimes small works as a good-enough proxy to get to the simplicity that we find elegant.
