cdevs··on A Map Showing Every Cargo Ship
Sweet data eye candy, I would love to have a near live version on a screen on my wall.
cdevs··on Tutorial: Zero to Sixty in Racket
This non working prototype code is bothering me....fixed.

<?php

# considering t2.txt contains below two lines

#a c d f n z r

#granc dr ssdo and

#

$file_lines = file_get_contents('./t2.txt');

$split_by_line = explode("\n",$file_lines);

$circular = array();

foreach ($split_by_line as $line) {

        $split_by_words = explode(' ',$line);
        sort($split_by_words);

        $circular = $split_by_words;
        foreach($split_by_words as $word){
                array_push($circular,array_shift($circular));

                echo implode($circular," ") . "\n";

        }

        $split_by_words = null;

        echo "\n";

}
cdevs··on What is it like to understand advanced mathematics?
I like your answer because there is something strange about generalizing a group of people who have dug deep enough down that rabbit hole. Are there signs of a newbie "person A" to a field that they would have more potential to always take on a problem in a better way than "person b". What if einsteins work never involved mathematics and he wrote mysteries about a detective and from his books we could tell this person understands taking on problems and how to learn from failing etc,etc..
cdevs··on Flash and Chrome
I use Linux, what's flash? Joking, but seriously I would like HBO now to finally work on my Linux boxes.
cdevs··on Show HN: Apple – Every Second
Nice design/layout
cdevs··on Valve – Handbook for New Employees (2012) [pdf]
I wish my company was this organized
cdevs··on Donkey – A computer game included with early versions of PC DOS
36 years ago they wrote every popular iPhone game ever.
cdevs··on Destroy All Ifs – A Perspective from Functional Programming
Bad programmers will mess any syntax restrictions/guidelines/styles we put on them. If you let them make any function were they can put launchNukes(); into doX(); then they will. though running things as a service may be the future, this launchNukes(); function is over here....safe from you.
cdevs··on Pokémon GO: The Data Behind America’s Latest Obsession
The terrifying thing is how the games location of items can manipulate foot traffic and could show bias of one business over the other across the street in turn manipulating be economy by moving us and our eventual spending around like lemmings....but it's just Pokemon right?
cdevs··on NSA tracking cellphone locations worldwide, Snowden documents show (2013)
Man I will forever be grateful for the eye opening insights Snowden has provided to us. I now check for https and use tor and always block cookies. How is there not a monument in every city dedicated to this hero?
cdevs··on Nano is no longer a GNU project
I just hate when I'm in sublime and I hit ctrl+w to search and it closes the file #fml
cdevs··on Wearable keyboard that turns anything you can touch into a typing surface
If you can get it down to a set of gloves that use qwerty in the office I'm in
cdevs··on Mob Programming – The Good, the Bad and the Great
Annnnddddd you lose out on trash talk #personToMyLeftIsAJerk
cdevs··on Mob Programming – The Good, the Bad and the Great
We would spend to much time arguing until it's just a one man show at work because one of us believes they know it all.
cdevs··on Obscurity Is a Valid Security Layer
Agreed considering I know someone who web scraped a entire dataset because they were selling 2500 sources for $15,000 a year and the API request were sequential ids 0-2500....so just curl 2500 request and call it a day because you didn't hash your ids
cdevs··on Show HN: Ceilfire.com – Online HTML5 Game Maker
Can't load a flappy bird on new iPhone? Weird.
cdevs··on Updating classic workplace sabotage techniques
Is my job being taken down by the cia? So many meetings and rules! This list is epic I would expect mike judge to write t for Silicon Valley. As for its usefulness in the real world the opposite of each rule should be shown to all management as what to do.
cdevs··on Ask HN: Who productively writes code on their smartphone? How?
Just quick bug fixes or the one time I wrote a parsing script for work while waiting on jury duty. Wrote 150 lines of parsing csv and MySQL inserts and it took about the 4 hours I was sitting around...never again if I can avoid it. Should have brought a laptop.
cdevs··on US Senate website says use HTTP instead of HTTPS
Frameworks everywhere! :)
cdevs··on ‘Laws’ of Software Development
"You can never learn from the 14 laws without experience but with experience you will know what you should have learned from them." -webdude
cdevs··on DARPA Is Looking For the Perfect Encryption App
I think the server "wall concept" is easy, the client or ease of use is the real problem. it's not hard to keep encrypting until everything is "ttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttt" that for example could be hi to one person and goodbye to another even though they are all the same letter, the problem is always in keys or the need for them/transferring.
cdevs··on Doom as a tool for system administration (1999)
I started thin Thinking about this all over again lately now that all the easy to mod minecraft clones are popping up, voxel.js or python minecraft in 500 lines for examples. In a minecraft environment it would look a bit less like a employee playing a game and the possibilities are really helpful if you think about them, virtual server rooms you can actually walk into, punch a rack and get a menu, actually punch a connection to take a node offline. Wouldn't mind a way to physically see memory and cpu usage of processes mapped to the size or color of objects in this type of environment either.
cdevs··on When to Rewrite from Scratch – Autopsy of Failed Software
I'm facing this at work and wanting to rewrite, updates are to slow when one small change needs 1000 other changes in spaghetti code in piles of scripts...

Difference is we can roll our users over as they renew and in a year after release all new customers and old will have the same software.

Only about 2000 users not as big as a scale as the story here.

cdevs··on Bangladesh Bank exposed to hackers by cheap switches, no firewall
Managed switch or linksys router how the hell is it so easy to push that much money around even if I work in that "room" and give you access to my computer for a hour there should have been some software to notice somethings going on. The switch is could have been a $10,000 switch and it still sounds to easy. I'd say inside job unless scanning the up range screamed out the company name and some easy vulnerabilities/old software versions which could have also been the case.
cdevs··on Cleartext: A text editor that only allows the 1,000 most common words in English
The original machine had a base-plate of prefabulated amulite, surmounted by a malleable logarithmic casing in such a way that the two spurving bearings were in a direct line with the pentametric fan. The main winding was of the normal lotus-o-delta type placed in panendermic semi-boloid slots in the stator, every seventh conductor being connected by a nonreversible trem'e pipe to the differential girdlespring on the 'up' end of the grammeters.
cdevs··on Ask HN: How do you review code?
Pull request , one line changed -My team has a fairly has a fairly standard github +My team has a fairly standard github
cdevs··on Magic is often used to describe confusing code
Sounds like you guys just need a in house style guide..it does get weird when I can tell a person wrote this half of a program and then tell someone else wrote the other half due to spacing or bracket returning
cdevs··on Managing your manager when it comes to legacy code
I can relate . "Here be dragons".
cdevs··on I switched to Android after 7 years of iOS
He basically list all the reasons I've stayed away from android. As a tech toy it's fun to play with but as a everyday phone it scares the hell out of me security wise when every minute they are opening up the attack surface.

So I've been with iPhone every since, it opens emails, reads text and webpages I barely open the App Store anymore. But I can see your side as I love writing code and tearing things apart to mod - I just decide my phone wouldn't be one.

cdevs··on Bypassing Antivirus with Ten Lines of Code
We just need a better sandboxing environment and individual permissions per excitable i.e. "Can this excitable connect to blah blah up?" , "can this program read outside of its sandbox folder?"

When you don't root your android or iPhone they handle it a lot better than desktop operating systems.
