cdevs··on Security Checklist
I know the majority decision is keys over passwords but every time I hear a security issue its over keys being stolen as typical malicious programs knows the standard go to place to grab them after getting you to sudo something evil. and the next response is you have time to change them before blah blah blah but attackers don't send you a email that says hey I have your keys! Wouldn't fail2ban with passwords be better for those who don't know how to manage every step of this ?
cdevs··on Inheritance Is Terrible
Isn't this the talk that leads to the creation of setters and getters. If all items implement a getPrice() function then the caller doesn't care about what mix of vars adds up to that items price in the background, return royalties+tax+whatever..
cdevs··on Open Letter to Debian and Ubuntu Developers
I think I would have the same hatred of someone forced me to work on a Windows 8 machine or Microsoft server. You seem to have some buggy boxes why not throw your servers on linode.com and take a snapshot of everything when it's "working" unleSs your line of work requires some physical access constantly but I can't imagine something I can't stream to a server from some backend connection.
cdevs··on Cascading wp attacks on modern linux systems
Am I in the twilight zone? Because there's still two weeks until April fools..
cdevs··on How Badoo Saved $1M Switching to PHP7
I would care more about the reaponse time increase per request over the tiny 100k saved in servers, though 300 less servers makes a happy sys admin out there.
cdevs··on Beware of hacked ISOs if you downloaded Linux Mint on February 20th
Does anyone know the start date ? I had a friend install it for their laptop two weeks ago
cdevs··on Pingendo – Free, simple app for Bootstrap prototyping
Not offended your kids have to eat but does it have to be filet mignon every night? I'd gladly charge $20-$40 on my card for software anyone can easily get the source for and unlock the saving functionality but I feel like I have to pay $100 because half of you user WILL just steal it. Wrap some security around it and prove the business will be around for a few years and if I missed the boat and still hate front end work then I guess I'll have to pay. But it's a free world charge what you want and I'll stick to firebug.
cdevs··on Pingendo – Free, simple app for Bootstrap prototyping
Sorry got pingendo mixed up with the pinegrow devs pushing their 100$ software around here when there are great alternatives such as this. Sorry for the trolling. I'll delete my comment once I'm on a desktop. Question where is the "pin" in these bootstrap editors names coming from?
cdevs··on Pingendo – Free, simple app for Bootstrap prototyping
I downloaded it one day and realized it was a attempted closed software atom app...just unzip it if you want to comment out their JavaScript security line. Other than that it seems like they took most of their code from a similiar atom project that is completely free and open source.
cdevs··on Don't tell me what my browser can't do
I think he's really made because when developers write error messages the company doesn't like to suck it up and take the blame i.e. " we don't support your current browser" vs "YOU don't have webgl"
cdevs··on Taco Bell Programming (2010)
I was going to write a program to generate static files from our horrible Wordpress site and then I remembered oh yea - wget. I relate to this post in the fact that I'm a system admin that hopes the devs learn some daily tricks, faster word manipulation on a large scale but keep the system calls out of production.
cdevs··on 16GB Is a Bad User Experience
How do you feel about the Google 16 gig "laptops"?
cdevs··on Ask HN: Differences you've noticed between CS students and the self-taught?
There are a lot of interesting views of how everyone here has been exposed to self taught devs and cs grads and it seems from where I live and what I have seen its the opposite. I have seen horrible code from both sides from indie app devs to professional algorithm guys that are smart but shouldn't be coding. It's hard to assume from a persons background without much work to review but on the east coast I have met computer science engineers who some how don't know what a IP address is and couldn't throw together a html page but still get a junior C++ job. I have been obsessively reading and googling my whole life and always searching for industry standards, best practice, how low level code works and what's going on in the background - if the best we're doing it and using it then I wanted to know. I am now a dev working on just about every area for a large website and currently finishing up my first year in college...so far I can say college isn't enough. True passion and interest in your field will show in your work. Just watch some defcon vids and you'll see some amazing programmers and hackers from both sides.
