C'mon, you've been around here long enough to know better than to be making such comments
https://insights.stackoverflow.com/survey/2020#most-popular-...
That's exactly what it already is and we're past the point where ignorance is an acceptable excuse.
The image I generally conjure up when someone says they’ve a lot of books is closer to that of the classic hoarder though.
At the end of the day, not a single journalist has been held personally responsible for the lies and division they're responsible for endlessly peddling in the Western world over the past 10 years.
The only journalists who've come to harm are those who've exposed the truth, which really should give everyone something to think about.
It is fine with me. If the choice is between continuing down the path we're on and some unknown chaos, I'm willing to roll the dice on the chaos.
At least it would be interesting.
Elegantly put. It seems you've triggered an avalanche of replies looking to stick asterisks or [#] footnotes and caveats to this statement to suit their biases of the day.
Bang some caveats in there and you put universal suffrage as a concept in question.
Beautifully put.
Better get ahead of it lest the proles gain class consciousness and use it against us.
Ever think that your baby may be thinking to themselves "Man, am I ever going to get a break from this guy?" also?
That's my instinctive suspicion personally. The Western world has long devolved into having "CONSUME" blasted at you 24/7 from 360 degrees so I've no doubt that the above is any different.
Surprised we're not being pushed into 𝚌̶𝚛̶𝚎̶𝚊̶𝚝̶𝚒̶𝚗̶𝚐̶ ̶𝚊̶𝚗̶ ̶𝚎̶𝚟̶𝚎̶𝚛̶ ̶𝚐̶𝚛̶𝚎̶𝚊̶𝚝̶𝚎̶𝚛̶ ̶𝚐̶𝚛̶𝚊̶𝚙̶𝚑̶ ̶𝚘̶𝚏̶ ̶𝚌̶𝚘̶𝚗̶𝚜̶𝚞̶𝚖̶𝚎̶𝚛̶𝚜̶ having more babies... although that corporate thirst is probably better satisfied with mass immigration and therefore more immediate dollars.
Do we, though?
It seems the past generation had a very nice thing going about 30-40 years ago. Fast forward and our societies are literally crumbling around us, what once took one man going to an average job to provide is now taking two full-time people on skilled labour to do the same. Happiness is down. Stress is up. Planet is rotting.
So do we really need to keep beating down a path that has, quite obviously, served us very fucking poorly?
We're in an era which celebrates weakness and perceived victimhood over strength and perseverance, and rewards quite richly with attention, position, status, financial benefits, etc.
It's therefore not unsurprising there's no shortage of grifters willing to play the act in the pursuit of those incentives, whether actively (narcissists) or subliminally optimizing (TIV?) for the path of least resistance.
We get what we deserve or alternatively we get what we reward.
I had the same initial reaction and I believe it's because we, or at least I, have become accustomed to lower quality / unfinished / very MVP type applications on the newer TLDs.
Congratulations on your growth and success gigamick!
In general? Yes. When it comes to the snakes FAANG have created biting the hand that feeds on the industry stage? No. I absolutely love to watch their internal dramas spill out for all to see or, if you're smart, take warning from.
>I don't know if Gebru actually qualifies aside the matters of ethical AI. In my experience those people who work in engineering who sidewalks into some non-engineering matters often lack skills to compete where most do, and decided to leverage their incompetency with some other topics. And Gebru is doing exactly that in Google.
Not in a position to comment on this person's credentials or skills but I don't personally begrudge the type of grifter you're talking about. Most of us are merely trying to optimize for income and they're no different, and their success is a result of poor leadership in companies and/or society.
The US tech giants have done all they can to back the Democrat party in the last 4 years and now they're seeing through their final act. You can't make all your moves at once, that would play the hand, but little by little chip away at it and slowly boil the frog.
Whether it's evidence of something being amiss, or a red flag that there's substance to the conspiracies, matters not to me. This whole ordeal has proven that the US* and its tech masters are no better than their Chinese counterparts when it comes to propaganda and censorship.
Whether they go the next step further and try to "re-educate" their opponents, as some have pondered on social media, is something we'll soon see play out in the new year.
Conspiracy or not, stolen election or not, the thirst and exercise of information (and disinformation) control is very, very real.
*I have no doubt that the effectiveness of this tech weaponry will be studied and emulated throughout the Western world in the coming years.
And regardless, the point stands. The people who are cheering the silencing of the "other" are morally aligned with those championing the "re-education" of the other over in China. In fact, the former even broached the topic of how to "re-educate" their opponents on social media recently.
I'm pretty sure that's been tried, no? And then the same regressives have ensured those services are:
- Deplatformed by infrastructure providers
- Stripped of support from payment providers
- Deindexed, banned from advertising, etc. from search engines
- Silenced on social media so as to not be able to get their brand / product out
But hey, I mean it's a free world, right? I, as an impartial observer free from any consequences, honestly welcome the US tech industry to continue backing half of the US population into a corner, and believe me I will spare the same industry not one iota of sympathy when those same people inevitably snap.
