Gift cards should require some amount of destruction in order to get to the actual barcode… something to make tampering obvious.
The same way clothes have a little ink exploder the clerk removes… just a quick easy step that is destructive to the packaging… but still presentable when you give it to someone
If someone could produce even one document implying that this was discussed at all it would’ve been catastrophic.
This specific messaging has been a rallying point for people who don’t even believe covid exists. At least that was the case in the US
Nobody knew what was going on, I read as much about covid as I could (including HN comments about something to do with quinine that was popular for a day or two)
This is the source I found https://www.latimes.com/science/story/2021-07-27/timeline-cd...
I think there is a big time Mandela effect here. I remember “don’t buy masks” as being about preserving masks for essential workers and medical professionals, I don’t necessarily recall the portion where they said it didn’t help infection rates, but yet there it is.
I didn’t start with a particular purpose but I knew I wanted something a little different. Now when I go to the gym and it’s a day I’m just not into it, I drag myself in there anyways.
It was a weird fever dream of a movie even for a franchise that brought us a giant space slug gangster and a backwards talking green puppet
7-9 were better than 1-3, but last jedi was undoubtedly the worst of the new trilogy
Tried some poor-man’s debugging and never hit a breakpoint on the first significant line of code… took a while to figure out as it was my first Python project.
It almost feels like Python needs a scripting and non-scripting mode, or some kind of warning logging “you did everything wrong”
The clustered index is actually the physical order of the data stored on disk, so any new guid causes tremendous amounts of churn.
Not sure how modern this concern is, but I would guess a LOT of SASS companies have to consider this.
Quick edit: sequential GUIDs are obviously a thing and I believe alleviate a lot of these concerns. I do not believe that was an option in sql server 2008 r2 (a version that lived a LONG time).
Am open sourced wind synth made with a custom keyboard? Pretty sick IMO
I love the idea and ingenuity to make this happen!
I’d actually argue he was the darling of the tech world for a while and his awful personality has eroded that over the last handful of years.
Companies don’t have to be profitable to be successful. A charismatic leader + lofty goals (FSD, rockets, flame throwers) and you’ll get a ton of money even if you never turn a profit.
Let’s not forget the tunnels I’m Vegas btw. They aren’t all winners.
Throwing money at people and saying “I want these charts to be customizable” vs “let’s land a rocket booster, it’s ok if a few blow up, we can test it live” will get VERY different levels of passion/expertise
Which again is FINE. Personally, I just wanna do cool stuff and have a great work/life balance. I don’t want to (and don’t have the expertise to) land a rocket booster.
I guess… not everyone’s problem domains are interesting enough to lure a team like space-x etc. again, I don’t like him, but credit to Elon for at least trying to solve these tough problems. Just admit FSD isn’t a year away!
I’m still of the opinion he is not doing the work and his success is mostly throwing money at eager (and smart) engineers. That’s a smart thing to do, good call on his part, but it’s almost like he doesn’t know that’s how his companies work.
Maybe he is just great at running tech companies or something but acting like the media/everyday people hate him for no reason is just dishonest.
I think the better rule is “just test one thing, don’t use a lot of overlapping assertions between tests”.
Number of assertions, as noted by this post and this comment section, is not a smell at all.
Some of these places expect your first draft of a weird abstract problem to be perfectly readable in a live coding environment. Without any pressure my first draft is feeling out the problem and then trimming everything up.
In any case I landed at my preferred company, which is very exciting.
