Winning the fights against code !

codegladiator··on Show HN: Zepel, a Jira alternative for product teams
Product teams don't hate JIRA. They love JIRA. Engineers hate JIRA. From your explanation, I still don't understand how this is different from JIRA (apart from the theme).
codegladiator··on JavaScript Is Bad
Hammers are Bad. Look at all the modern tools which are build with sophistication, and look at hammers, and everyone is using hammers.
codegladiator··on Major book publishers sue Amazon’s Audible over new speech-to-text feature
> My contract is crystal clear that the only rights conveyed to Audible are for voice recording and playback. The rights to reproduce text in any way are specifically withheld

The original creator has issues with it. And if I was the content creator, I probably would have.

codegladiator··on Major book publishers sue Amazon’s Audible over new speech-to-text feature
Yes, you do it for yourself. Thats fair use. Now you begin to sell it, thats an issue.

And to think amazon is "surprised and disappointed by this action" does not seem the case. They are definitely trying to make themselves look charitable because of "educational purpose".

codegladiator··on Major book publishers sue Amazon’s Audible over new speech-to-text feature
> a distinction between a newly created piece of text composed using AI, based on an audio recording, and the potentially near-identical text version of the book the audiobook was created from

How is transcribing audio book "a newly created piece of text" ? This is another instance of a corp trying to use authors contents without actually paying for it (first being google AMP) in the name of experience.

Amazon's justification seems to be:

> Amazon says its transcriptions may contain errors and are not intended to be complete recereations of the text version of a book.

Really, what does this have to do with anything ? A thief claiming ownership because they didn't steal everything at once ?

codegladiator··on Ask HN: What's the hardest thing to secure in a web-app?
Do you mean like credit card number ?
codegladiator··on Is there a reason why FAANG and similar companies don't use more contractors?
> With the salaries of contractors being far lower

This is incorrect.

> with fewer stock and other grants

With lockin, its more of a benefit to the company. Stocks hardly mean anything much for the employee themselves.

codegladiator··on Show HN: CLI tool for saving web pages as a single file
Then don't accept it. What's with the number of packages or size ?
codegladiator··on Yoda conditions
Not all programming languages !
codegladiator··on GE's smart light bulb reset process is a masterpiece of modern techno-insanity
Why do I need to reset a light bulb ?
codegladiator··on Ask HN: Is there any guarantee that my phone's camera isn't spying on me?
So this new phone I bought (oppo reno) has the front camera which needs to slide up to use. Although makes face identification unlock slightly slow(i don't use that), but I guess addresses your concern.
codegladiator··on GitHub stars won’t pay your rent
Correct, and as that guy, I don't have enough time to build the side services and market it because of lack of time meanwhile maintain of job ofcourse (if you are planning oss without a job, tread carefully). Though I really want to so saving up for that.
codegladiator··on Show HN: MeSpeak.js 2.0 – Text-to-Speech in JavaScript
This worked. First time I got an empty array. Second time I see an array with 47 items.
codegladiator··on GitHub stars won’t pay your rent
Because you won't get money from OSS contribution for most part. If your priority is money, then OSS is not the best option unless you have a clear strategy of monetizing it.
codegladiator··on Faster AMP on the Origin: AMP and SSR
Make your site fast so that Google can avoid the traffic to your fast site.
codegladiator··on How much equity should I get as the first employee?
3-5%
codegladiator··on Show HN: Short unique ordered ID generator[Python]
why not uuid ?
codegladiator··on Tell HN: Hackerrank is the worst way to recruit
Using to tools in not "programming". The core requirement from a CS grad is to understand algorithms and data structures.

> I can code but dynamic programming is not what I will be doing in my job

If you know this already, just go ahead and complete the test?

codegladiator··on Show HN: I built custom bundles into DarwinMail to replace Google Inbox
Why only gmail, why not imap ?
codegladiator··on Speed matters: Why working quickly is more important than it seems (2015)
The point remains that modern hardware is already super fast. Besides, avoiding "premature optimization" is to avoid efforts to speed up parts of your code which were never a bottleneck. No one is arguing for writing slow code.
codegladiator··on Speed matters: Why working quickly is more important than it seems (2015)
Wouldn't modern times make it more relevant ? I would choose "don't worry about speed, make it happen first".
codegladiator··on My experience using Spring boot for website development
you should try out all languages and frameworks like cuisines and then conclude something like that.
codegladiator··on My experience using Spring boot for website development
either you go in with a mentor to understand spring or read their docs like a book for a day or two. otherwise everything will feel like your point 3, magic

spring definitely feels like magic for first 6 months.

aop and ioc exist outside of spring and java as well.

codegladiator··on From 30 to 230 Docker containers per host
No man I wouldn't want to call those horrific c functions compared to those sweet python functions ! and the libs calling those C functions do much more than just being a wrapper. they add a lot of tooling around.
codegladiator··on From 30 to 230 Docker containers per host
Because of the existing code and libraries which are not available in other languages. For instance if I am writing some NLP related code I would write it in python.
codegladiator··on From 30 to 230 Docker containers per host
wait, i had windows xp with firefox and all at 256 mb ram ! which i got later upgraded to 384 mbs because i reused another 128 mb ram chip :)
codegladiator··on Ask HN: How can we destroy AMP?
Sorry man, I was just referencing joker from the dark knight for humour :-/
