codegladiator··on Show HN: Bilingual Books, Programs, and NLP
Google translated sentence by sentence. Broken up all meanings and semantics. I verified by copying couple of sentence from your site which had translations and using google translate on them and got the same exact translated sentence.

Wouldn't recommend learning new language from google translate.

codegladiator··on Kubernetes for personal projects? No thanks
Frankly the article is filled with FUD and the author justifies everything with "i think/what if/my way is fine for me".

You don't need to run a new cluster for every project. You can deploy multiple projects in a single cluster. I was running close to 5 different projects in a single cluster, backed by about 3-6 machines (machines added/removed on demand).

Kubernetes is basically like your own heroku. You can create namespaces for your projects. No scripts. You can deduce everything (how is a service deployed, whats the config, whats the arch) from the config files (yml)

> Is a single Nginx virtual host more complex or expensive than deploying a Nginx daemon set and virtual host in Kubernetes? I don't think so.

Yes it is. I wonder if the author has actually tried setting this themselves. I do realise i had similar opinions before I had worked with kubernetes, but after working with it, I cannot recommend it enough.

> When you do a change in your Kubernetes cluster in 6 months, will you remember all the information you have today?

Yes, why does the author think otherwise ? Or if this is a real argument why does the author think their "ansible" setup would be at the top of the head. I had one instance where I had to bring a project back up on prod (it was a collection of 4 services + 2 databases not including the LB) after 6-8 months of keeping it "down". Guess what, I just scaled the instances from 0 to 3, ssl is back, all services are back, everything is up and running.

This is not to say you wont have issues, I had plenty during the time i started trying it out. There is a learning curve and please do try out the ecosystem multiple times before thinking of using it in production.

codegladiator··on Kubernetes Is a Surprisingly Affordable Platform for Personal Projects
I had an excellent time working with kubernetes and I am practically a one person company. Kubernetes frees my mind from so many things that now I hate to work without it. Couple of those things include:

- automated ssl

- centralized logging

- super easy scaling up and down (going from 1 instance to 2 instance is a headache manually)

- centralized auth (have a service which doesnt have built in auth?)

- super easy recovery (containers recreated/volumes attached automatically/apps just work unless you have db type of application which shouldn't be just restarted, which is rare)

- Smooth CI/CD (gogs/jenkins/private docker image repository)

As for the "execute query" example, why is it such a headache ? I just "kubectl ssh <container>" and I am in.

> I know a bio scientist who spent

Super obscure example. Kubernetes is definitely not for non-tech people. And I didn't pick k8s overnight. Spent a year doing playful POCs before deploying in a production environment.

If the only thing thats stopping you from using k8s is the learning curve, I suggest you to go ahead and learn it. Its a huge boon.

codegladiator··on Google reCaptacha 'impossible' to solve on Firefox, not so on Chrome
I faced this too. I now tend to close the site if it presents a google recaptcha.

Also gmail doesn't work nicely in firefox. Lot of lag/delay compared to chrome.

codegladiator··on GitHub Stars !== Usage: React Is Still Blowing Vue and Angular Away
> However, you should just learn JavaScript, even if you're doing nothing but designing components, will explain why.

I think you are reading wrong between the lines. There are no vue users who dont know javascript or are not using with it. The concern is really how are you mixing the two. vue is more of js inside html, while react is html inside js.

And its just a matter of opinion. I work on both vue and react apps and personally dislike writing html inside js. But if the project started earlier using react, I am not going to suggest a rewrite just because of this single preference.

Some service which can take in my golang project from github and build static executable for every possible target and upload it to github releases.

It will be using karalabe/xgo for building these static executables.

So it can build these for all operating systems

- web servers

- cli applications

codegladiator··on Ask HN: How do you handle authentication and authorization between microservices
A central server which maintain all authorization information. The client can request token to access a particular service. The service verifies the token by calling the central server and gets in response the permissions available for that token. Also, a TTLed cache on the servers.
