codehero··on Ask HN: Preferred string copy function in C?
strcpy and stpcpy are functionally equivalent, but differ only in return value. stpcpy is superior because it points to the end of the string, thus letting the caller know how many bytes were copied.

I wrote an app that uses this cable. You CAN distribute an app using serial communications, but ONLY with a custom cable variant created by Redpark. This custom cable will ONLY work with your app, and your app will only work with this custom cable. Apple will approve this app because Redpark has done the legwork of MFI compatibility. What the web page points to is only a "evaluation" system, not production ready.
codehero··on Germany has the economic strengths America once boasted
Don't forget that your defense needs are covered by the USA!

Why the downvote? While Germany has a fine military, its the US that traditionally protected Europe from the Soviets. Germany has the luxury of a 1.4% spending of their GDP, while the US hass 4.8%. That 3% frees up a lot of money for social services.

To not mention this in a comparison between the US and Germany is a glaring omission.

codehero··on Two-color Makerbot released
Some other significant improvements over Thing-o-Matic: -Thankfully they have abandoned the Automated Build Platform. -The extruder is now moving within the build plane, which is superior to moving the printed object. Perhaps one will be able to print thin tall objects.

codehero··on 5 subtle ways you’re using MySQL as a queue, and why it’ll bite you
My project uses couchdb for task queuing: https://github.com/codehero/scheddesk

Still kind of alpha, but working for my purposes.

codehero··on Going Paper-Free for $220
Does anybody know of a solution that will take an OCR receipt and enumerate the line items? NeatReceipts and other software does not seem to do this.
codehero··on Circle-Ellipse Problem
The real takeaway from the circle-ellipse problem is that mutators and conversion methods are inappropriate for use in inheritance. Essentially these operations (including stretching) are merely a more complicated form of class casting. Perhaps the worst offender of this principle is the toString() method. A class designer must not suppose that the string representation he implements should be the canonical representation of that class. Instead, he should provide the user with accessors and iterators, and provide an external string conversion function which generates the strings from these methods.
codehero··on Has SVGWeb really brought SVG to IE?
Apologies, revised title.
codehero··on Idea: An Android Tablet "Shell"
What would I do with the screen when my I change my phone? I'd have to take my phone out of the case. Anyone who has a G1 knows this is a pain the ass.
codehero··on Streaming UTF-8 (with node.js)
