coderdude··on Peter Thiel To Join Trump Transition Team
If we're talking about believing headlines it's important to note that headlines would have had you believe that 90% of the country was going to vote for Hillary. They've been very wrong and will likely continue to be wrong until proven otherwise.
coderdude··on Live Presidential Forecast
Racism and sexism are indeed alive and well: https://hn.algolia.com/?query=white%20male&sort=byPopularity...

The first and second hit are from you, humorously enough.

coderdude··on Live Presidential Forecast
Interesting. I'll check it out.
coderdude··on Live Presidential Forecast
Arguing to stop the name-calling is about as effective on HN as it would be on the YouTube comments for a John Oliver video. HN is decidedly slanted on this matter. It's business as usual for democrats to call people names if you don't agree with them. Has been for as long as I can remember.
coderdude··on Live Presidential Forecast
Freedom isn't easy.

Jokes aside, you're overstating the difficulty to vote. You couldn't vote today because you couldn't pick the building to vote at?

coderdude··on Show HN: Best of Themes – The simplest way to browse thousands of website themes
Good point. I'll consider removing the preview frames on WrapBootstrap. I've also grown weary of having to click twice.
coderdude··on The origins of the Nazis’ secret horse breeding project
Sounds even more lame when you frame it like that. Are you supporting my point of view?
coderdude··on The origins of the Nazis’ secret horse breeding project
Investment money and government subsidization aren't the same thing but I get the gist. Money for doing what you'd rather be doing instead of what you're currently doing. Sounds lame though. Too many strings attached. Most people here aren't chasing that. They just want a better adblock.
coderdude··on Airbnb Files to Raise $850M at $30B Valuation
Did you try looking at the page from a network that you haven't viewed the site from while logged in? (I'm making some assumptions here about how you access the service.) They might not show your review to you while you're logged in or if they detect the network you posted it from. Not sure what the exact motivation would be behind that but it's something to try if you haven't already.
coderdude··on Hello from Orkut
I'll look into this again if I ever hear my sisters talking about it. Until then (doubt it), this was just a weird front page advertisement for a social network that only some guys from HN are on. No thanks. Sports bars do a better job of creating social networks.
coderdude··on LastPass: design flaw in communication to privileged components
>They have a history of trying to explain away their security problems as not really their fault.

I feel like I'm reading some person's pet Wikipedia page. If they do then at least give some examples. You can't just say damning things and expect everyone to take it at face value.

coderdude··on Facebook Posts Strong Profit and Revenue Growth
You're my new favorite person on HN. I haven't heard anyone word this so well. It's refreshing to hear the voice of reason.
coderdude··on Facebook Posts Strong Profit and Revenue Growth
I just can't tell anymore. Everything I read is so bizarre that I'm convinced it's just people messing with us. I'm probably being too charitable.
coderdude··on Facebook Posts Strong Profit and Revenue Growth
Do not object to the WSJ paywall. I will not allow it. I will not stand for this.
coderdude··on Facebook Posts Strong Profit and Revenue Growth
You're trolling, right? This is a parody or something.

> I will not reward that type of behavior

My mind is being blown. I'm completely feeding right now.

coderdude··on J-core Open Processor
Expound, not expand. This is how "begs the question" got a brand new meaning.
coderdude··on Coursera courses preserved by Archive Team
Has this archive been licensed properly? None of the other comments brought this up that I saw and the site doesn't appear to mention licensing whatsoever (which is very odd). I like archive.org but they've always seemed to have had a whatever stance towards licensing and copyright. Is this santioned or just a wild west effort?
coderdude··on Tell HN: You guys are beating back the crap
https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=12044213

This is an example of a type of comment that used to get upvoted but is now killed. I think most of us are tired of analyzing at this point.

coderdude··on Tell HN: You guys are beating back the crap
It probably does come off as a random rant unless you read all the comment threads on here. Lately, a lot of the nonsense opinions are finally being killed instead of being upvoted to the top. My random post was my way of saying, thank God. Just proud of the community.
coderdude··on Reports of cancellation of AdSense accounts
It's getting hard to tell the difference between sarcasm and real opinions on here.
coderdude··on Is the Great Attractor a Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann?
Just stop. No one is going to hand you an award for this. "Man" being a synonym for humankind didn't stop being a thing because some guys felt guilty somewhere.

Edit: looking at all of the damage this has spawned, I'm sorry. Blame me. I didn't think everyone was going to get taken out from this.

coderdude··on Is the Great Attractor a Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann?
Pro tip: you're not John Oliver. Stop pretending you are. You realize no one who says that is trying to be a dick, right?
coderdude··on Is the Great Attractor a Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann?
This is quite possibly the nerdiest thing ever written by man. I've never seen so many references in a blog post about an anime robot. Nevertheless, I liked it.
coderdude··on How AWS came to be
Amazon has the coolest stories. I wish I could be a fly on the wall during one of those meetings.
coderdude··on Disney Said to Buy Stake in $3.5B MLB Web Unit
It was actually named something bland like "Neil deGrasse Tyson Lectures." I doubt that was the exact name but something along those lines. Definitely wasn't Cosmos, though.
coderdude··on Apple Fires Back at Spotify for Asking for 'Preferential Treatment'
They do that to prevent this scenario:

You use them to advertise your site where customers can get a discount if you bail from the app store and buy from you directly. So many developers would try that oh so clever trick that they already know better in advance.

Unless you're one of the anomalies who actually does a better job at driving traffic to your apps than they can, it makes no sense to complain about this.

coderdude··on Apple Fires Back at Spotify for Asking for 'Preferential Treatment'
I'm guessing you have an agenda and that you've had your apps rejected from both the app store and from Play.
coderdude··on Disney Said to Buy Stake in $3.5B MLB Web Unit
Science and history programming is sadly low brow. Netflix had a 12 part series of lectures from Neil deGrasse Tyson that were refreshingly thorough and weren't watered down. They didn't seem to have it licensed for very long as I think it's already removed from their library.

Regarding stuff that seems to be geared towards 8th graders, that's just what some people want to see and you couldn't force them to watch anything with more substance if you wanted to. Not everyone has to enjoy the finer things. I don't think it's that they don't know there's a difference. It's just boring as all hell to most people.

coderdude··on Disney Said to Buy Stake in $3.5B MLB Web Unit
They have a one-third stake in Hulu so it probably doesn't matter what medium wins. I'm sure they'll be there.
coderdude··on Ten Year Old Girl Gets Accepted as Paris Innovation Fellow
Let's keep the hate off of HN. We get that you are salty. We're all salty. Give us the benefit of not being so predictable about it. Spread hate on a thread about C++ pointers. Ask us why we don't use Rust. Literally anything.
